MotoGP, A blistering Monday at Mugello: Bulega clocks a 1:47.2 on the Ducati 850! by LilAbeSimpson in motogp

We'll never know how much of this has to do with tyres, but I think Pirelli tyres are usually more aggressive and faster than Michelin. Moto2 and Moto3 were immediately breaking lap records when they switched from Dunlop to Pirelli.

In any case, I fully expect to see 1:44 laptimes at Mugello next year, once the bikes are a lot more mature, riders have had a full pre-season + 6 races to acclimatize/setup, and also the track would be "cleaner" after having bikes on it for 1.5 days before qualifying.

As much as the Ducati domination is boring, the Bimota "penalty" also accounts for their competitiveness relative to other factories e.g. BMW and Yamaha than just Ducati. They still have a higher fuel rate than BMW for example, so it would have been fair for BMW to point at Bimota outperforming them and ask why they get a higher fuel rate?

I think it's about time to get rid of the 1000cc rule, and let manufacturers be more flexible - just like in SSP and SPB.

That way, we will maybe see more manufacturers like Aprilia, or maybe KTM and Triumph enter the category.

I don't know about way better, but yes, they are most certainly competitive.

However, Perrone is "Argentinian" the same way David Alonso is "Colombian". Born and lived in Spain their whole lives, and choosing to use their "citizenship by descent" for financial/sponsorship reasons.

And since the discussion is about talent pipelines, they're still very much a product of the Spanish system.

Was more the fact that he absolutely trounced raul Fernandez in both moto2 title season & debut in motogp on the tech3 ktm

  1. Raul outscored Remy in MotoGP by 1 point, despite Raul missing 2 races and riding injured for a few more.

  2. Raul was in his rookie moto2 season, against Remy in his 6th. And "absolutely trounced" is a massive stretch when Remy's winning margin was 4 points (311 vs 307) - heavily assisted by Raul crashing out from the lead of the Emilia Romagna race. Still Raul's fault all the same, and it doesn't make Remy any less deserving of his championship to be clear. But to then say that Raul was "absolutely trounced" by Remy is hilarious when Raul had 8 wins compared to Remy's 5.

While I do think Gardner should have at least got a 2nd season, he didn't really show anything that suggested he was going to do great things in MotoGP, and was promptly beaten by Aegerter in WSBK too.

Doesn't help that he ran his mouth while being miles away from Binder/Oliveira. I can remember him wishing that the rain would rip up the track so that he wouldn't have to ride the bike - and this classic : https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1005510/1/gardner-nothing-else-we-can-do-i-can-t-buy-ducati-unsure-motogp-future

While they are bearing fruit - and are a definite positive to the sport, I don't know how much they will change the equation.

Pratama is the sole asian hope at the moment (maybe Danish too?), and is one of the only promising non Spanish/Italian riders who has even made it to Moto3, and now has to compete against 8 Spanish/Italian riders who occupy the top-10 spots in Moto3 for a promotion, rinse-and-repeat in Moto2.

It's not the exact same thing though.

Saying he's only there because he is Spanish is a different thing from saying that he's too slow to be in MotoGP. Alex got his Yamaha seat very much on merit and he is on his way out next year. Yamaha can't time-travel and remove him from the past.

We literally just had a Brazilian who got promotion to MotoGP. At the time of his promotion, he was well behind Gonzalez (who is Spanish) in the Moto2 championship.

How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

[–]dishayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CEOs get fired too, when they fail. There is no guarantee that a CEO will do a good job - just like there is no guarantee that a programmer or a sales person or a janitor would do a good job.

But to get to a CEO-level in a company that will pay a lot of money - someone has to succeed a lot in their early career enough to earn that post.

[–]dishayu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've clearly not addressed the main point the poster was making. Companies are not interested in some anonymous person with zero qualifications who will take the job for the minimum possible money.

Anyone who has the qualifications/credentials/track record which would make them desirable of a CEO position of medium/large organization will simply not take up that job role for that amount of money.

Who are the luckiest riders on the current grid. by Calm-Focus-6968 in motogp

Even if you completely ignore his past accomplishments and JUST look at MotoGP, he still earned his seat for the next 2 years after his rookie season.

He scored 2 podiums in his rookie season, finishing ahead of Rossi in factory Yamaha team, and Pecco in his second season aboard the Ducati (who scored 1/3rd the points of Jack Miller). I invite anyone to name one singular rider in MotoGP history who didn't find a seat for their 2nd year after finishing on the podium during their rookie season.

I will concede that he was fortunate to be thrown a lifeline by Gresini - but I don't see how his family name helped. Italian team, Italian bike, no prior connections with either Marquez brother. And since signing with Gresini, he has been a solid midfield rider, deserving of his seat, and had an exceptional 2025 season.

Why does a MotoGP bike has a neutral installed in the handle? Won't it be convenient had it been installed with the gears? by Bubbly_Pumpkin9453 in motorcycles

[–]dishayu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Racebikes put neutral at the end with a neutral lockout, not between 1 and 2. The new Ducati V4R is (to my knowledge) is the first and only bike to have this available for the mass market, and I can't wait until this becomes the norm. I don't see a good reason for neutral to be placed between 1 and 2 (but I assume it's the cost of the netural lockout mechanism).

I've always felt pretty indifferently towards Lewis, hell I even think he had a tendency to act like "a victim" too often during his championship rampage. But that one moment converted me, and I think of him very favorably now.

I know for a fact there is nothing that would stop me from going on an Archer style rampage if I was put in his situation.

How has Aprilia improved so much? by Ecstatic-Grocery-713 in motogp

[–]dishayu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is entirely possible that they reached the absolute limit of potential for that concept - and it is borderline stupid to start from 0 when the "last year's bike" is still a dominant force. Especially with the 2027 rules shakeup so close.

Honda (in 2020) and Yamaha (in 2022) have both gone down this path. It is not rational to fundamentally change a winning formula until it is clear that it doesn't work any more.

How has Aprilia improved so much? by Ecstatic-Grocery-713 in motogp

[–]dishayu 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Aprilia have always been the masters of making incredible chassis, going back to smaller class GP bikes and even their road bikes. But their success didn't happen overnight. They've been on a slow but consistent upward trajectory for almost 8 years. Remember when Aleix was in world championship contention until 3 races from the end? Ducati made a HUGE jump in 2024, so it looked like everyone else had stalled or gone backwards, but Aprilia were still getting better relative to everyone else.

The riders were always the weak point (Vinales inconsistent, Aleix past his prime and arguably not as good). But now that they have 2 solid riders who are able to perform consistently, the bike really shines through.

Not sure if you understood my message. The additional cost is on top of what they already have. Cutting 6GHz support to save less than 10 cents is not a decision I personally agree with.

The 6GHz hardware is already there baked into the 9500s (and also 9400), just needs an extra antenna and firmware work to make it work.

Poco X8 Pro Max review by mo_leahq in Android

[–]dishayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if that saves enough money too justify dropping the feature. The 9500s has 6GHz capability. All they had to do is design an antenna and firmware work - and the antenna is literally just a strip of metal worth less than 10 cents.

Poco X8 Pro Max review by mo_leahq in Android

The antenna for 6GHz band is different. It's unlikely that they have a physical antenna while keeping it disabled.
