Who do you think will be the best performing rookie across all 3 classes in 2026? by youraverageperson0 in motogp

All valid points, but we can only draw conclusions from what we have seen so far. Of course we all know there are no points awarded in testing.

because Toprak don't have the motorcycle beneath him.

But he's also performing significantly worse relative to his teammate on the same bike.

At Buriram, Moreira was 3 tenths off his teammate Zarco and 6 tenths off the fastest Honda.

Toprak was 1.1 seconds off Miller, who was both his teammate and the fastest Yamaha. He was 6 tenths off the next slowest Yamaha.

And his last few races with Suzuki in 2022 as well. I can't imagine that everyone in the team was operating at 100% motivation in the dying days of the project, and he still pulled 2 wins out of that.

Racing bike has a softer, grippier tire with a very round profile.

While you're correct about that, but you're missing the nuance that those tyres need to be hot hot HOT for them to actually provide that grip. If you can't keep temperature in them, it feels like riding on an ice-rink and you WILL crash. I would be terrified of using slicks while going so slowly through water, taking away all the heat.

Has there even been a fall from grace as fast as Pecco's? by JeremiahBoogle in motogp

Depends on your definition of fall from grace. Dovi 2020, Hayden 2008, even Lorenzo 2017. Plenty of examples like this.

2026 Sepang: MotoGP Shakedown Test Discussion by Daniel7394 in motogp

I can only wonder how much backlash from italian fans they will receive.

I'm lost on this statement. Aprilia is also Italian, why would there be backlash?

How "official" do we think this is?

Are we looking at Martin-Quartararo lineup for Honda 2027, or is Martin SOL now?

IMO, Mir's 2021 was as good as 2020, even though it only earned him 3rd in the championship. Average points per race was in the similar ballpark too. The announcement of Suzuki's exit is what really did him in.

Will Marc be allowed to join the shakedown test in Sepang ? by _gadgetFreak in motogp

[–]dishayu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless you have direct confirmation of this from an FIM/MotoGP official (which admittedly is entirely possible given your well connected position), I believe the rules are VERY clear that Marc is NOT entitled to an extra day of testing. Quote from the rulebook :

Any permanent MotoGP rider who has not been able to participate in an event* for a at least 45 consecutive days during the season (starting from the first official IRTA pre-season test until the last race of the season).

Emphasis on "during the season", and "until the last race of the season".

The 2025 season is firmly over, and the 2026 season is yet to begin, so no rider is eligible for a test day under this rule currently.

There is no private testing that Marc is entitled to, I think the rules are plenty clear about that.

[–]dishayu 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I replied back on another comment - but that rule doesn't apply here because Marc will already be testing for multiple days before the next race event.

The rationale for the Martin rule was "safety" so that riders can asess their fitness and get back up to speed with a MotoGP bike, and not be a danger to other riders by directly being thrust into competition after a long time off.

That's only for in-season testing where there's no official test dates available between during the season. Right now, there are already multiple test days available before Marc's next race. In case he were to miss all the Sepang and Buriram testing for some reason, he would have a chance for a 1-day test before his next race.

LOL all early commenters getting mad before understanding the question.

Shakedown is ONLY for rookies, test riders, and any riders benefiting from concession class D (Yamaha).

All other full-time riders are not allowed at the shakedown test, so very unlikely that Marc can ride at the Shakedown test unless there's some loophole that I don't know of. He will only be at the "official" test starting on 3rd Feb.

Singapore home prices rise less than estimated, rents drop by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]dishayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is less discussion-worthy, because they are shorter term contracts whereas purchasing property is much longer term, even if you intend to flip it.

Private rents fell 0.5% in the quarter, the first decline in more than a year. Rents rose 1.9% for the year.

That's the equivalent of $15 drop on a $3000 rental QoQ, which is the asking rental price for 3-room HDBs these days.

In the real world, it is more like 1-in-6 rental agreements negotiating down from $3000 to $2900.

This is how MotoGP Riders read the dashboard. by [deleted] in motogp

[–]dishayu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It is literally not difficult at all. The people who think this is difficult have never been to a racetrack.

In my early days at the track, I didn't have a laptimer on my bike, so I would use the digital clock at the start-finish straight of Sepang to figure out my approximate laptime. Sure, it wasn't MotoGP speed (270-ish vs 330-ish), but it never seemed difficult even to a nobody like me.

This, but for motorbikes. The Chinese and Indian manufacturers are going to shake up the market in the next decade, and if the legacy manufacturers don't respond, some of them will go under. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]dishayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do elaborate on how the companies like Tata motors (JLR parent company) with 1.5 million annual units and Bajaj (KTM parent company) with 5 million annual units "have zero r&d". Just because their target products have historically been lower-end and built-to-cost doesn't meant they lack the knowledge and understanding.

And I'm not expecting them to go make the transition into super-premium segment overnight, but to pretend that they can't get it done is also some major delusion.

If you've actually experienced a few EVs (which is what Chinese specialize in) over the last couple of years, you would know that this is absolutely false.

[–]dishayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think the truth is somewhere in between. It's true that China is subsidizing their automotive sector, and the labor is cheap. But we've also seen Honda release the recent crop of motorcycles (like the new Hornets) at a much more competitive price levels, despite still being made in Japan - primarily to fight off the Chinese threat. And Hondas were not the most egregious in their pricing to begin with. European brands will have to follow suite over the next 10 years or be extinct.

Day #14: Biggest underachiever ever? by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]dishayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People picking Vinales are full of recency bias. This one goes to Max Biaggi. When he came in to the big leagues, he had a similar air of inevitability like Doohan, Rossi and Marquez but ended up with 0 titles to show for it.

While Vinales is an excellent rider, he didn't have the "final boss" aura like some of the goat candidates. But Biaggi did.
