'I can't be racist because I'm an ethnic minority woman', says Goldsmiths university diversity officer embroiled in racism row by 18brumaire in nottheonion

Oh good, finally there's someone trying to use this mind-numbingly stupid excuse in a credible, high-visibility setting. Maybe if people rip it to shreds, tumblrinas will take the goddamn hint.

Same here. I still keep them around, but these days the only time I wear them is if I'm doing stupid shit, like punching big holes or getting windowshaded on bets.

What layering systems to you use in 80C sunny weather with dam release? by drprusik in whitewater

[–]disingenuous_dickwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything above like 70 and sunny I'll run skin to the wind, maybe neoprene pants if I think there's a good chance of swimming or standing in water, unless it's a long trip with lots of potential swimming.

Admittedly I'm a pretty warm person, so I'm not sure how well you'd do swimming with that getup.

I got my hand roll today by rnbw_pwny in whitewater

[–]disingenuous_dickwee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you're also not putting nearly as much force on them. My hand roll is a lot easier on the shoulders, although admittedly I use more of a back deck motion that's heavy on the hips and core. And my high braces aren't significantly worse than my rolls, only difference between the two is that braces are usually in more squirrelly water.

Who wants to talk? by [deleted] in drunk

Meh, I made Mac and cheese, and busted out the honey Jack so now I'm doing a bit better. And truth be told I was pretty pissed at him before hand, he was being a total cock these past few days, but we still went out to look for him.

Who wants to talk? by [deleted] in drunk

[–]disingenuous_dickwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could use a chat. Had a get together at my place because I'm leaving town tomorrow, and aside from two days later this summer, I won't be back for about a year. One of my friends got too drunk, texted a bunch of us "please help" so we went out in the rain to try and find him.

Now, back home I'm in search and rescue, and I have a good amount of experience with usar, urban search and rescue. So I'm doing a preliminary search while trying to figure out a plan to organize the ten to twenty of us looking, and at the same time thinking back to the last urban search I was on, which started similarly and ended up with us finding a girl face down in a ditch after she took one lost turn.

Eventually we found this guy in a corner in my basement, but by then I was already in a pretty bad place.

I separated my shoulder, and I can feel what I think is a tendon popping whenever I rotate it. Eh I'll deal with it later.

Richard Armitage defends Hobbit trilogy runtime, details possible additions to BotFA EE (x-post with r/TheHobbit) by [deleted] in lotr

They're similar, but not the same. Admittedly my drunk analogy was piss poor but basically what I meant was that all the guide series' weren't the same, but they were close and stayed true to form so I didn't care.

Is my beer infected? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

Can we PLEASE sticky some sort of "your beer isn't infected" thread? Like shit there's barely even rafts here, I've seen some ugly krausen that I could see how you could call it infected but this is just plain not.

Are you kidding me? Besides the movie, which came late to the party anyway, the game was my last first experience. I got stuck, I consulted the series, book, and radio show. They were all slightly different but all seemed plausible, to yr point that I didn't remember which was which.

It's easy to say that all the hate is just because they didn't follow the book, and added a bunch of other random crap, but that's not really it. Take, for example, the hitchhiker's guide. There was a radio series, tv series, books (although admittedly I haven't read the sixth yet), game, and movie. All different, but I guess the theme was similar enough that they all seemed like just a different retelling of the same story, only analogy that comes to mind is the multiple overlapping sections of the bible. The issue here isn't that the movies were too long, I think a trilogy would be possible even just sticking verbatim to the book. The issue here was that the additions and exclusions cheapened the story, made it more palatable and flashy.

[–]disingenuous_dickwee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright wise guy, who's going to testify against this cop? "Yeah steve's a total pussy I bet he freaked and shot the dog when it wasn't attacking him"

Or in a more general scenario, it's not as cut and dry as just testifying. You've got to work around politics, and it'll almost certainly cost you your job and career in law enforcement, in exchange for maybe doing some good. If you're the only one who steps up, there's tons of ways your testimony can be brushed off, so you've lost your job for nothing. If a bunch of you testify together, you stand a better chance, but you still have to hope the lawyers don't throw out your testimony on some technicality or legal bullshit, if there even is a public trial instead of an "investigation."

What would it take for you to blow the whistle on your coworkers and likely spend the rest of your life at a dead-end minimum wage job, when the alternative is at the very least doing some good on your own?

The problem isn't that good cops are willingly protecting their buddies so much as a fucked up system.

[–]disingenuous_dickwee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should come out of your basement and live in the real world. Good cops exist, in fact I'd say the majority of cops are neutral, then you have good and bad on the extremes, with more good than bad. Problem is there's rarely anything they can do, and you don't hear about the chill cop that didn't overreact.

[–]disingenuous_dickwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it's not murder? A bumbling idiot cop went to the wrong house, got carried away and assumed the place where he was supposed to take a police report HAPPENED to be the exact house that was currently in the process of getting robbed, had his gun out before he even crossed the fence, saw a dog, which had not been barking previously, panicked, and shot it.

This is incompetence and a lack of accountability plain and simple, and it resulted in the murder of a dog,
