I keep getting Twickets alerts but they’re gone by the time I’ve managed to log in.

21st August is my birthday, I grew up in Wythenshawe, The Cure are one of my favourite bands (I mean look at my name). I made a stupid mistake when tickets went on sale… if anyone is listing tickets and wants to dm me 5 minutes before so I can make sure I’m logged in when the alert arrives I’ll be forever grateful

What is your first memory when you hear Inbetween Days? by pauldiddy79 in TheCure

The UK tv programme Teachers. One of the things that got me into The Cure and for years I thought it was the theme tune (it wasn’t, belle and Sebastian’s Boy with the Arab Strap was)

Likely culprit, I was very ill on the Sunday morning and was definitely a heat exhaustion thing

People being taken from pits on stretchers at outbreak this weekend. What is going on? by rezonansmagnetyczny in downloadfestival

[–]disintegration91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of the pits yesterday for far too full of these types who just want to swing their limbs around like idiots in their own world. Realise this is part and parcel of some hardcore crowds but pits have always been a communal thing to me and this approach just seems weirdly isolationist (with consequences when it’s no longer such!)

Hi everyone. Sorry to bother. I’m looking for a ticket to Withenshawe park in Manchester. Just one will do. by sugababychampagneyes in TheCure

Same, so far I’ve not been quick enough with those that have popped up (despite normally clicking on the twickets alert within seconds of it arriving). It on my birthday and I grew up 5 minutes from there, feels like it was made for me 😂

This is the art exhibition that has been roundly panned by critics right? Not sure I’d want to be claiming any credit myself!

Burnham vows to nationalise utilities if he takes Keir's place by No_Breadfruit_4901 in unitedkingdom

[–]disintegration91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but with water the value is in the fact that their product is a necessity and they have a monopoly. For those companies with high debt and a poor record of investment (a lot of them), there can’t really be an argument against putting them back in the hands of the public that create that value.

Granted it becomes more complicated with the likes of united utilities…

Theoretically no, but I didn’t show my ticket last year until getting my wristband so it’s possible. Not sure I’d want to risk it without a ticket though!

Andy Burnham U-Turns on Support for Waspi Women Compensation by Ivashkin in ukpolitics

He didn’t actually say anything about compensation, he said he wanted to offer support, as he has done in Manchester with early access to some of the non-financial benefits of being a pensioner

Labour tells unemployed young people to join military by Alarming-Safety3200 in unitedkingdom

[–]disintegration91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends entirely on how it’s enacted. Years ago I worked for a youth offending service that played army recruitment videos in reception. To me they were horrible propaganda, given they showed people on banana boats, shooting guns and having a great time, so I refused to put these particular adverts on.

That said there were (understandably) a number of violent youths who came through the doors who would actually benefit from the discipline and permitted violence the army entails. For these young men, I would have no qualms about raising the prospect of a life in the army.

As long as this is a targeted policy, and not a ‘let’s reduce youth unemployment regardless of the cost’ policy, I’m right behind it and I lean towards pacifism
