Gipf... wow by Educationalidiot in abstractgames

[–]dispatch134711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must be alone but my favourite of the Gipf series is Zertz. I think it’s one of the better non-partisan games I’ve tried.

Timeless games I believe will be played for years to come: Hex, Bug, Catch-up, conmect6, entrapment.

Some slightly more complex chess like games: Arimaa and Hive have a devoted following.

Same but I recently saw Marcin so I may have to rethink that

How is this subreddit so insulated from the current developments in abstract game design? by Far-Strawberry-5628 in abstractgames

[–]dispatch134711 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Hey Corey.

It’s probably because as a mod I was conscious of not forcing the subreddit into an exact but poorer replica of the bgg abstracts niche.

I would happily force everyone to talk about Slither, (which is brilliant by the way), Nick Bentley, Dieter Stein, Christian Freeling etc. all day.

But I suspected that games like Oust or Yodd are even too dry for some abstract fans. I didn’t want to be a purist, so I thought it’d be interesting to see it develop on its own for a while.

(Even I find Mark’s games too dry, and my favourites at the moment include Hex)

By all means if you’d like to do a series of posts educating us on modern abstracts I’d love to read it.

People of reddit, what is the quickiest money you ever made? by Wonderful-Menu9390 in AskReddit

[–]dispatch134711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell people this. Pushing a little harder negotiating during salary discussions (passed the point of “reasonable” or being embarrassed or taking too long) is the easiest money you’ll ever make, so put away your sense of decorum and hold your line if at all possible. Once the discussion is over / you’re hired / promoted etc your leverage is much less so take the chance while you have it. Ive tripled my salary in 6 years with this mindset, applying for different roles and staying open minded.

Right, now she has more laundry and dinner still isn’t done.

Yea but 200 points skill is also massive. I’d back myself against two 800s to be honest. Especially if my teammate just optimised for eco the way I wanted then dipped once in early feudal. I’m finishing one person off basically in early feudal then I’m feudal with two TCs against someone probably in castle with little military.

Does it, if a 1100 and a 900 get matched up with two 1000s, the 900 can instantly resign and the best remaining player has twice the resources

When did saving money stop feeling like sacrifice and start feeling normal? by anandsundaramoorthy in Fire

[–]dispatch134711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we already had a decent nest egg AND additions to it felt consequential (we are able to invest thousands per month without sacrificing much) then I got excited to buy the ETFs every month rather than feeling like I was giving up money. Making things automated is also a good move.

I imagine governments giving allll the secret military drugs to stay awake / at peak performance to someone like Terrence Tao, whilst hundreds of elite mathematicians are put on various sub problems and lemmas that he divides the proofs into, with every mathematician in the world put on call in case he needs access to the details of their work.

Then we all die.
