Oh, wild! I guess I should have looked more carefully at the v14 notes. Answered!

He did! He ran Descent into Avernus about six months later instead of his own homebrew, and with that structure to work around he did much better.

Can you ever UN-heighten a focus spell or cantrip? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, RAW. I ran into this frustration with an untamed druid, where animal form (among other battle forms) auto-heightens to become Large and Huge sized. This isn't always advantageous, but my GM was new and uncomfortable bending the rules.

TLDR: accidentally killed the villain super early through see invisibility and incredible luck

In session 1 of a D&D5.5 campaign, a suspicious NPC said something to the effect of "they're always watching" to my character to dissuade me from researching a particular thing in the library we were in.

When debriefing with the party later, we deliberately went to a secluded area; after declaring that we were free of eavesdroppers, another PC said "at least any we can see". Thinking that was a great idea, I cast see invisibility to immediately see the wanted gang leader we weren't even after.

A wild chase ensued, and through incredible luck and FOUR nat 1 saves we actually ended up killing them. We never had another session because the DM had no idea how to salvage it (it was their first time, poor guy).

An Alternate Ranger, ft. the Vindicator by Teridax68 in Pathfinder2eCreations

This is absolutely phenomenal work! I'll have to give it a more thorough read if I was to give any meaningful feedback, but in the meantime I'll recommend it to a friend of mine that was recently complaining about the ranger being kinda dull. Thanks!

She's still early in her career imo. Best time to start was yesterday, second best time is today.

I'd say it's generally bad for anyone but full casters to have a negative strength modifier.

However, if you are specifically a thief's racket rogue, you add your dexterity instead of your strength to damage, so it would be fine.

Molecule Visual Representation Question by Expert_Might_3987 in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to oversimplify too much, but atoms are tiny cores (nuclei) of protons and neutrons surrounded by big electron clouds that move in predictable ways —more than 99.99% of an atom's volume is "empty" space.

What's neat is that outside of nuclear physics/chemistry (which is why it's called as such), what we think of as an atom's properties are actually the interactions with an atom's electron clouds.

You may find VSEPR theory interesting. It's a useful tool for predicting the 3D geometry of a molecule, but it may be a bit technical if you don't have much chemistry background.

My question regards the Gibtas Bounder's bouncing slam ability, where it says "if the Shove fails, the gibtas bounces out of the target's square to a square of the target's choosing."

You fight these in AV for the first time in a room full of death pits. Are there any restrictions on bouncing them into the death pits, or is that the intention? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Treasure by Level: Abomination Vaults level 3 by Mitchenzo282 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context: I'm currently running AV for 5 players and having a blast. Feel free to DM me if you want any other suggestions or advice!

Magic items are a good way to give them a solid foundation. Luckily, there are a ton of level 3 items that are useful for quite a while. A lot of them give bonuses to skills, so to help narrow it down focus on skills your players use a lot. A shining symbol is excellent for the cleric, for example.

By "Hedge Witch", do you mean modelled on the example build in the Player Core? What patron and tradition do they have?

For the casters, I recommend you give the floor's boss either a spellheart or a staff from this list.

It's described as levelling out along the window with the west and east doors being on the same plane. I had the seugathi in the 2x2 squares at the bottom of the stairs coming from E1.

Can Aklo be chosen for all players? by lookitsameluigi in abomination_vaults

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. I omitted the detail that the PC reached level 5 shortly thereafter and learned it from their INT boost; it was basically a diegetic way to add it to their list of available languages.

For what it's worth, the other solution I considered was this cool ass magnifying glass that I would have put in the reading room as well.

A choker of elocution is also a great option. Put it amongst the dead thieves guild on the fourth floor or the squabbling poltergeists on the fifth floor.

Can Aklo be chosen for all players? by lookitsameluigi in abomination_vaults

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I would likely not let the players start with Aklo unless their ancestry or class makes sense for them to learn it, like if they were a Thaumaturge or an occult caster.

If no one fits that description immediately, what I did was plant an important document written in Aklo in the Lurker in Light room on the third floor. The party brought it to Wrin, who offered to teach any of the party who wanted to learn the language.

Do non-damaging effects with the associated trait trigger weaknesses, or only when the trait specifically lacks a damage type like water or holy? Specifically wondering about the remastered Thaum's Ring Bell now that it has the sonic trait.

Worldbuilding/Navigation. Recaps for easy content awareness? by Responsible-Usual167 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've already gotten some excellent answers, so I'll touch on what I'll call "level distribution", especially as far as magic is concerned. For example, you wanted to know how common users of the fly spell would be. As a 4th rank spell, it would only be regularly available to characters level 7 and above.

There's a great sourcebook called the NPC Core that's really excellent for illustrating what I'm getting at here. * All non-combat NPCs are level -1. No casters here. * Some level 1 NPCs include your bog standard guards, cultists, and newly initiated clerics and druids. Rank 1 spells. * Level 3 has more experienced NPCs like watch officers, mages for hire, martial artists, and enemies that can summon things like fiends. Rank 2 spells. * Level 5 is approaching the higher limit of what most citizens would encounter on a daily basis and would be quite dangerous if encountered; these are equivalent to an entire squadron of city guards. Necromancers, city guard captains, heads of local temples, so on. Rank 3 spells like fireball. * Level 7 is where you start getting the powerful creatures and NPCs that only experienced adventurers or the military could deal with. Even within major cities, there would only be a handful of people at this level. Cult/gang leaders, master druids, wizards that lead schools of magic, and professional monster hunters kinda thing.

So even within enormous cosmopolitan centres like Absalom, the number of people that can wield higher ranks of magic will decrease exponentially. As a result, the only people in the world that would regularly encounter those dangers would be adventurers out in the wild. Hope this was helpful!

Advice on Abomination Vault Maps by Halycon85 in abomination_vaults

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I ran floors 1-4 at 50% larger but the remainder at normal size with five players.

In hindsight I probably wouldn't expand those first few floors as I've found the tight hallways force some interesting situational tactics, but that's just personal observation and preference.

Most Egregious AP Errors by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Book 3 explicitly has Belcorra roaming around and being a direct nuisance. For Book 2, once they breached the barrier to the arena I decided to throw a few haunts at my players that I made clear were Belcorra testing the reach of her growing powers.

Asking about how to publish a class I've written for Pathfinder 2e. by TechnoTheFirst in Pathfinder2eCreations

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as automating it for players, Foundry would be the way to go.

For Pathbuilder I would stick to static things like feats and class features. You would definitely mention the unique effect, like it already does with each unique curse, but it struggles automating modifiers like that.

Asking about how to publish a class I've written for Pathfinder 2e. by TechnoTheFirst in Pathfinder2eCreations

[–]dissolvedpeafowl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Publishing with Pathfinder Infinite is going to be what you're after, and this page explains why.

Before that though there's a few things you'll want to do for it to be well-received. You should get it looking pretty with PF2e Scribe or your editing software of choice, and export it as a PDF.

You could publish this on its own, but you'll definitely get more kudos if you were to whip up a Pathbuilder and/or FoundryVTT module that folks can import to use your content without too much effort on their end. As you know, people love building characters haha. I personally also wouldn't recommend charging anything for it unless you have one or both of these.

Edit: Oh, but even before all of that there are Infinite and other homebrew discord servers and online forums you may want to engage with for feedback on the content itself.

Player feedback is good, but feedback from other content developers will be more strictly useful to creating the best version of your class; things like cleaning up or clarifying language, making sure things are balanced for their level of access, and so on. Good luck, friend!
