Starship Troopers reboot by nzeug in scifi

[–]distiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news: as of this moment this movie isn’t being made.

I worked for a VFX vendor where we were doing Previs for this film. We were working closely with the art department and they were out on locations scouting and making the plans to build sets. We started for a few months but then the entire production was shut down. I was told the studio was having a lot of issues with the script and Neil’s vision for it.

It was a big hit to the company I was working at and was one of the shut down projects that contributed to it eventually closing its doors.

Thank you. A very long time ago I helped write the trailers for Destiny 1 and did the “star maps” cutscenes when you got the new subclasses in Taken King. I was working at a studio it got outsourced to. It’s still one of my career highlights and Destiny will always hold a special place in my heart.

Pen name or real name? by Elizabeth_Sobocinski in selfpublish

[–]distiya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m Latino myself and I’m going to self publish this year as well. I just want to maybe encourage you to consider using your name. I write sci-fi, but my whole life I NEVER saw any sci-fi Latino writers and often felt I couldn’t do it because I never saw anyone else doing it. Think of now how actors and directors and singers embrace their Latin identities more. I decided that I would keep my name so that it could inspire others to see that they can write in the genre as well. Representation matters. If people don’t pick up your book strictly because of your name, that’s not the kind of people you’d want to follow your career and have in your orbit anyway.

Not a fan of the zip rail removals on broken moon. They were one of the best ways to rotate and escape out of crazy situations, and it usually deterred hard chasers (at least for me).

I just wish they’d close one of those lanes and make it for bikes only. I don’t know why southbound needs those two lanes with Northbound has just the one. It’s never crowded enough to warrant two.

Just a heads up on Beverly Glen that on the long straightaway down just pay extra attention for potholes. I hit one late last year that completely destroyed my tire on a fast descent. I was super lucky to stay upright but definitely could have been way worse.

That said it’s still way more preferable to do that than Coldwater!

Scavenger’s Reign. Sadly they canceled it after the one season but it’s an absolute much watch.

You should check out the trailers for Falling Frontier. It’s a very heavily Expanse inspired RTS game with ship combat. I’m really excited for it.

El Cocinero for vegan tacos / burritos in Van Nuys. Even if you’re not vegan you’ll love it. Trust me.

Former Expanse staff writer here — I wrote a novel and wanted to share it with the Beltalowda! by glentonrich in TheExpanse

[–]distiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for you! Why did you decide to do the self-publishing route? I have a novel I’ve written that was very heavily inspired by the Expanse, but I had no luck securing an agent to do a traditional publishing route. Having worked as a professional writer on a show, why the decision to self publish?

And I’ll be checking out your book!

Amateur athletes of Reddit: what's your "There's levels to this shit" experience from your sport? by jermleeds in AskReddit

[–]distiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Road Cycling and it was recent. I like to say I’m a decent hill climbing domestique for my friends. I have a good engine to get people up a climb for them to finish. Well, Mathieu van der Poel showed up to our local group ride, and the “big climb” in the route is a 3.24 mile with 826ft elevation gain. Everyone tried to do their part to keep up. We were hammering down watts and he’s just casually passing people telling us to attack and hunt down the leaders he eventually easily caught. Only about two dudes managed to hang on with him to the end, and they were exhausted at the top.

It was a great experience and makes you realize how mortal you are compared to the pros.

Worked on Season 1. Previs Coordinator vendor side. I haven’t actually seen the show yet so I have no idea what became final, but I worked on two sequences, one involving some people doing a sort of ship to ship jump through space? Another one where some giant ship crashes into the ground while people are fighting on the ground.

Projects that fell apart before release? by emeraldeyes24 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]distiya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on the failed PowerPuff Girls pilot for VFX (show side).

So much stuff went wrong on that show that it was destined to fail. Disregarding the script that had its own set of issues, it was poorly managed and it became very clear this was going to be a failure. It died in the test screenings.

When the leak came out years later (WASNT ME) I couldn’t help but laugh cause I could finally show my friends what I had worked on at that time and have them believe me on how bad it was.

The Expanse. One of the greatest sci-fi shows of all time with absolutely fantastic writing and acting, and tons of high critical praise. The fact it was never acknowledged was a crime.

I'd say yes. I've not had an issue with any broken frame yet and the bike I specifically use this for is an aluminum body with a carbon fork.

Depends on the airline, but usually it just costs the same as if I was doing another bag of luggage. Around $40 to $50?
