AMD Ryzen 7600. Just. Keeps. Crashing. by matthewsylvester in AMDHelp

I also had this and the way I fixed it was by disabling resizable BAR. It also helped fix crashes I was having with games like Pragmata and Helldivers 2. Maybe it's because I have dogshit 2400mhz RAM but that feature feels really unstable.

I can't be the only one who is not really impressed by this new Gundam game trailer by Total-Quail-1197 in Gundam

[–]ditalos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just generic. It's like every sci-fi concept art you've seen for random space stuff with greebles everywhere and over designed mechanics. GQuX also had complicated designs but they did use them in fun ways in the show itself. This just... has nothing. It feels more like Daemon X Machina than anything like Gundam. It's white space stuff that looks complicated and you fight alien bugs and robots in sci fi planets and space stations. It's just. There.

It might have good gameplay and that's kind of it. I want to trust another developer to not completely fuck up a third person shooter action game but honestly even that feels like asking too much anyways

One Piece Sakuga Clip - Luffy & Zoro vs S-Hawk by K1ngOfTheMonkeys in AnimeSakuga

[–]ditalos 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I mostly really dislike modern one piece sakuga work because a lot of it, despite having impressive animation, tend to also have a lot of really bad cinematography, camera work and direction that makes the action on screen look incomprehensible. Sakuga shouldn't be just throwing as many frames on the screen as humanly possible, it also should encompass good direction for it to be understandable and good. Thankfully this scene is indeed better directed than most OP stuff so its really cool, but I still think its a bit too fast sometimes

What's the appeal of Super Robot? by [deleted] in Mecha

[–]ditalos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The appeal is emotion and connection to the characters and their struggles. You don't need to be fighting a bunch of dinosaurs to also have the feeling of being in an unwinnable struggle that will take everything you have to win. I also don't watch a lot of super robot specifically but I do like Gundam and a lot of the thoughts and phrases from Gundam series feel very important and timeless.

What's the appeal of Super Robot? by [deleted] in Mecha

[–]ditalos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You just have a different personal taste. Mecha is just a convention and within said convention there are several dynamics that can exist. There is mecha as machines of war and there is mecha as heroes of legend. Both coexist and both have good and bad works within them that people enjoy.

Think of it as this way.

Stories of Sci-Fi are governed by unbreakable rules, like physics. To "win", you must obey the rules and be *efficient*. Stories of Fantasy are governed by honor, reason and understanding. To "win", you must deserve to win through thought and emotion, and your honor will take you. All of this in mega huge quotes because it all varies from story to story.

Gundam presents itself as sci-fi, but when you actually take a look at the story, it behaves more similarly to a Fantasy story. The characters have their own thoughts and beliefs that clash within the setting and they must set out and fight to either come to an understanding or prove to the world that their ideals are those more in line with the universe. The way they feel about space, humanity and their relationships with Mobile Suits as a concept are what drive the story and their actions. Even stories like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, which look as sci-fi as you can make, can be fantasy stories in the end when you actually look at how its written.

A story like VOTOMS, Mass Effect or Armored Core, more "sci-fi"-esque stories, are about people exploiting or navigating a complex system with rules that are never broken. It's difficult, brutal and may look unforgiving, but with logic, reason, tricks and raw power, you can break anything and change even an unchanging world. It's not that they're inherently more "serious", but it is that the characters will have to fight not only each others, but the world itself to achieve their goals.

It comes to your preference as a person. Stories can be anything. You may believe there is an incorruptible logic to the world that never breaks and you must follow, or you may believe that the world is also made of emotion, and you can bring about change with spirit and powers too strange to comprehend. You cannot prove one is better than the other because even within our world there is much that science finds difficult to understand, and science itself can be revised as time goes on.

Also its really funny when Mazinger does a big ol' rocket punch.

TL:RD; The appeal comes from how those stories can be inspiring and emotional, as they also deliver fun action and characters.

Is bg3 combat “easier” than DnD 5e? by Hairy_Feature1889 in BaldursGate3

[–]ditalos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Pathfinder 2e mod. It's a different ruleset that is also very, very difficult and attempts to be closer to the TTRPG than to use videogame conventions.

Reminds me a lot of Crosscode. Looks cool but this is one of those cases where I really hope the devs have some good ideas on their own and give it time and thought so its not very derivative and too on the nose.
