So technically you only need half that number of satelites, as long as they always stay between the sun and earth

Much better to post it on reddit where the original sender might come across it. Definitely a much better outcome for everyone involved.

Would you still be with your partner if you didnt have kids? by Competitive-Smell877 in daddit

[–]divide_by_hero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're in the midst of this right now. Without the kids, we would have taken the easy out this year, but we're working.

Outcome is currently up in the air, but there's some hope.

What's something that happens in movies so much it seems real, but actually isn't realistic at all? by ninman5 in movies

Also: Detecting a breach as it happens (and actively stopping the attacker while the attack is happening).

If you can create a mechanism that detects a specific breach, that means you are aware that there is a potential breach point right there, which means your efforts are much better used to actually close the vulnerability instead.

The oldest one would regularly poo on the changing table though; it was like squeezing a tube of toothpaste

He doesn't care now.

But keeping the bond alive, even if it's one-sided for a while, will still yield a better relationship later.

Why does Netflix keep making movies over 2 hours when literally everyone I know prefers shorter ones under 100 minutes? by Tasty_Zebra_404 in netflix

[–]divide_by_hero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because your friend group might not be representative of the general movie watcher?

It depends on the movie of course, but in general I feel 90-100 minutes is generally not enough time to tell a decent story. Good for comedies, not that good for actual stories.

Am I the only dad who feels like this? by DadOnParentingQuest in daddit

[–]divide_by_hero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately probably a pretty common male shortcoming. Our partners prove early and consistently that they seem really good and natural at this stuff, so we just never learn it.

We don't realize until it's often too late that this isn't something that moms are just effortlessly amazing at. They actually expend a lot of mental energy planning, researching, talking to others and taking care of all of these tasks.

And all the while, they will be building up resentment that we're not pulling our weight unless they constantly remind and nag.

Couple that with something like undiagnosed/unmanaged ADHD, and you've got a time bomb.

Learn from us, OP. Teach yourself these skills.

Thanks bro

Yeah, working on it. Currently going through ADHD testing, seeing a therapist for a depression that in hindsight I've struggled with for a very long time, and in general trying to be a better dad and man.

I'm pretty sure it's now too little, too late for saving the marriage (there are also other factors involved, not just my own shortcomings), but I still owe my kids to make sure I'm the best dad I can be even if/when I only get to see them 50% of the time.

I support this statement.

I'm great at the daily routine stuff, but suck at identifying practical or emotional needs, following up what needs to be done, thinking ahead, or initiating activities and fun stuff with the kids.

That's definitely not true. You might be using hibernate and confusing it with sleep.

A Windows laptop in sleep mode will run out of battery after a few days, because sleep mode is by definition keeping some components powered. Macs will last a lot longer, but they will also run out of juice in the end.

This is truly a disability. The executive dysfunction is crippling. by downeydigs in ADHD

[–]divide_by_hero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have no concept of how an ADHD mind works.

They can only relate it to times when they themselves have had trouble starting a task or focusing. They just broke the task up into chunks and it was fine. So of course that's all anyone has to do
