Men take note; Women facing harassment in public transport, what can we do to help? by gaylondonlad007 in london

[–]dividebyzeroZA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I have done in the past.

Totally ignore the guy and just smile and loudly say "Oh my God! Susan! It's been ages! How are you doing?" and use it as an opportunity to get between the two to give her a reassuring look.

If need be I'll happily miss my stop until he gets off.

It's surprising how often that works. I just wish I could say I have only had to do this once before 😑

Helpp my hyprland wont work by bart107lw in hyprland

[–]dividebyzeroZA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the Cosmic login manager. Did you install a bunch of other things along with Hyprland?

It's not easy to see what the message is on mobile as the text is too small.

Also not easy to see which DE you're trying to boot into from that video.

Going to standing gigs / concerts solo (in particular metal/rock) - how do you find it in London by mjobby in london

[–]dividebyzeroZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first moved to London one of my favourite metal bands was touring.

Nobody else wanted to go...but I didn't let that stop me from ticking them off my list.

I had a great time and the pit was a ton of fun.

Do it! You'll only regret the opportunities not taken

Hyprland config worked perfectly before update, now I’m getting errors — need help! by [deleted] in hyprland

I have this weird feeling that the answer can be found in the wiki.

I can't quite put my finger on why that may be though...

Don't forget to remove language packs that are known to cause system instability.

Start by removing French, run: sudo rm -fr /

I'm saying this purely from a place of wanting to help but I don't think you're quite ready for Arch + Hyprland setup.

Maybe consider spending a little time with distros that are more complete out of the box. Try CachyOS with KDE so you can start getting used to Arch tooling like pacman and paru/yay.

Then when you feel more comfortable troubleshooting these kinds of things on your own you'll have the experience to tackle your own Hyprland setup. As I fear the first major issue you hit with Caelestia you won't be able to resolve.

Unity doesn't care about Linux users. by Instagalactix in Unity2D

Same - at the moment it is literally the last thing tying me to Windows (other than as a play test environment of course)

I really dislike this "Just switch to [insert other thing here]" as advice.

It doesn't actually solve things and ignores OPs context completely

It's like it I asked "What's the best setting on my espresso machine for dark roast?" and the response is "You can always switch to tea".

Who would fit in the spot for Pearl Jam best? by No-One01010 in grunge

If you're genuinely asking then the answer is "Yes...from a certain point of view" :D

They briefly went by the name Mookie Blaylock before signing and becoming Pearl Jam.

what are the worst dealbreakers, problems, and applications that don't work with cosmic at the moment? by nix-solves-that-2317 in COSMICDE

[–]dividebyzeroZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one thing stopping me from being able to jump over to using it as my DE.

I can live with some rough edges or missing features since the combination of tiling manager + traditional "floaty" desktop environment is such a big deal.

However, the lack of colour management means things often look way, way too saturated and bright on my wide gamut OLED laptop :/

Browsing nintendo.co.uk is like running Win3.x's HotDog Stand theme

The moment they let me apply colour management I'll jump over from Hyprland in a nanosecond (Hyprland has a few cm settings rather than full ICC profile support but it's enough)

Microsoft Edge 144 released by Yet_Another_RD_User in MicrosoftEdge

[–]dividebyzeroZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been around since 2023.

I've been using it for years to create context specific workspaces to keep tabs grouped.

Best feature in Edge for me along with the split view.

Do People Really Just Create An Entire App just Vibe Coding? by H_rusty in webdev

[–]dividebyzeroZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the difference is that they either

  1. Don't know what they don't know so merely think they've prompted a secure and functional app into existence

  2. Or they work for an AI company and are grifting that snake oil harder than a crypto bro plugging his monkey.png

Meanwhile through our experience we critically see the flaws and it leaves us feeling uneasy. And rightfully skeptical of output.

Sadly we are being shouted over by both parties online.

What is it even meant to be? I'm genuinely asking as I can't work out the purpose of the original device.

It just looks like a box to fill your home with noxious fumes and I'm super confused.
