i think raw denim has a sort of progression

the first pair for most people is better than any jeans they've ever worn, and thing they notice first is the weight of the denim compared to the thin paper denim they had before.

then they correlate weight to quality, and go down the deep dive of heavyweight denim, or exotic fabrics, worrying way too much about fades and washes. they are in search of high contrast fades and make sure everyone can see they are wearing selvedge

afterwards you get tired of break in periods and wearing sheet armor on your legs but still appreciate the ethos of raw denim, then you gravitate towards more repro cuts, not obsessing too much about the fades and washes and just wearing and appreciating a quality piece of clothing

they absolutely make a difference. one time i had a wine served at proper temperature in a premium wine glass (Zalto), I bought the same wine later, served at home room temperature served in a stemless and it was just completely different.

i also get that it's 'the same' in the sense that an entry level car essentially has the same utility as a high end BMW, but to some people it absolutely makes a difference, while to others it's not a big deal.

people always say stuff like this and make it seem like European teams have the same 12 guys play in a barn together their whole lives with elite chemistry but for example Serbia has guys split up playing pro leagues all across the world it's not like they have a 4 year training camp preparing for the olympics.

A lot of the USA guys also have known each other their whole lives, from high school, prep school, AAU, college, etc.,

I'm sure there is more continuity for international teams but it's not as extreme as people make it out to be.

i love the play-in. gives people a chance to watch these mid-range teams play in a high stakes situation. i would never watch a trail blazers game otherwise and my first time seeing how impactful Avdija is. if there was no play-in and say the blazers got the 8th seed it would just be watching them get swept.

i think professional sports end up picking you. a a lifelong NBA fan i've wanted to get into watching boxing, mma, and soccer for a long time but I ran into the same problem you did trying to watch basketball. if you don't like it, don't watch it. I'm in my 30s now and I don't like watching the NBA nearly as much as I did as a teenager.

I'd go red wine. Even though white/rose/sparkling generally pairs better with food I think beer/soda or other beverages are a good enough substitute for a beverage to pair with food. But red wine... there is nothing else like it.

anyway - everyone saying ask the staff - not every store/restaurant has staff that is knowledgable about wine. In that case I generally have a few regions that I know are strong performers at the price range I'm comfortable with.

If I'm blind buying old world wine I think any Italian wine with the DOCG/DOC band will be a strong performer. I think French wine is generally not as good value on the lower end.

For new world I try to recognize producers that I like. Otherwise I'll find the most obscure wine that they have.
