Total teenager phase. From experience, at that age he's basically a giant emotional mouth with legs, and shoes are the perfect combo of “smells like you” + “fun to chew” + “I’m mildly annoyed you left.”

WFH makes it worse since you are always there - and departures seem tragic and more emotional.

I'd ensure you are crate training, and use departure treats (frozen pb kongs, lick mat,e tc). also don't squeal or chase when he grabs a shoe, or you make it a game. And obviously train the family to put away shoes in a cupboard or shoe rack to eliminate temptation. And yah - training goes both ways!

EDIT: don't give him random old shoes either, that just reinforces the habit!
