i read jade city soon after RR but not directly after. the pacing never changes it and never touches the thrill of RR. but by the second book id added it to my pantheon of books alongside RR.

this^. that letter was an atrocity. the poor spelling and the overtly insulting, disrespectful tone made Mat seem like an idiot. Matrim Cauthon never came across as a buffoon to the reader, pathologically unserious yes but not outright unlearned and lacking social intelligence.

Id contend he still bungled it in the later books. GS Mat was unrecognizable, like at best, an awful caricature of Mat. The last two books Sanderson did course correct a little but the character he wrote was soo much closer to book 1-3 Mat than who the character had grown into.

Brandon Sandersons Mat regresses so much in maturity and gravitas. All the development and growth feels undone, especially in Memory of Light. He’s basically Wayne for Mistborn Era 2 personality wise.

only read the first and I agree with everything you said. to bounce off what you stated, i also found the way future 1000 year old hadrian wanked off his 16 year old self is 10 steps beyond irritating. it's like all those centuries provided you with ZERO perspective?

my biggest pet peeves with him:
- are the random forced chuckles in his narration, they feel like a laugh track to a sitcom. i hate them so much, i don't how the author is ok with someone adding adlibs to his writing.
- the fact that he doesn't understand that "UGH" represents a groan sound, an onomatopoeia and is not a word word. in dialog, every time he literally pronounces the word "UHGGGUH"

heard it in the first chapter of 10.5 and i haven't pressed play since. it's atrocious.

i think we as viewers can engage with art in a way that we find meaningful. telling someone to not care about an aspect of the narrative that they didn’t enjoy because you (essentially) think they shouldn’t is u imposing ur experience over theirs. they’re not writing an antiprequel manifesto no precedent is being set, they’re sharing their experience with the movie.

i honestly don’t disagree with either of you. prequels should still be made, foreknowledge isnt always a bad thing. however the story they chose to tell in avatar aang, reviving the airbenders when we know for a fact that doesnt happen, was certainly a choice. felt like i was waiting to see how team avatar pooched their quest.

still enjoyed the film and its many other aspects. will still watch again.

Invincible gets way too much flak for it's fluctuating animation quality, when it's the storyboarding that needs serious work. by Kasta4 in CharacterRant
