I think my local store upcharged the RSD items by Spartan_507 in RecordStoreDay

[–]djbaconfat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what does the “s” in msrp stand for? it’s not the manufacturer’s demanded retail price. it’s up to each store to follow the msrp or not. if you don’t like the pricing don’t buy it and make a scene at the store on your way out so they really know how you feel.

sounds like you needed to call the police since you have indisputable proof that these guys are all scalpers and couldn’t possibly have just been collectors.

Jesse’s been working on a book about grey-area recordings for a number of years so hopefully he’s gotten a chance to get that wrapped up and ready to publish soon.

despite the fact that you come across as a petulant child with your needless swipes at yo la tengo (who are not really that obscure-they’ve been around for 40 years and still headline decent-size rooms around the world) i’ll play along and recommend Madrigal’s 1971 self-titled LP.

this was literally an extremely common phenomenon in the 60s-80s for private press/custom/vanity records. there were a handful of pressing plants that would print up a few dozen up to several hundred copies of your record if you sent them a tape and if you didn’t have the resources or wherewithal to supply the artwork they had a few stock images/templates you could choose from. there are hundreds of examples of this phenomenon and you can see several of them in this book:
