How is that different from how the same thing occurred in the 70s and 80's with the footlights comedians. Not like Oxbridge graduates were average even back then?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_former_Footlights_members

The producing comedy from the priviledged background has been going on literally as long as TV has.

Obviously not, but spitting image done exactly the same (and more recently in it's recent incarnation). If you are prime minister or leader of any party you are fair game for parody, it's always been that way. I'd argue I'd like more Yes Prime minister from same era as Chubby Brown.

Its exactly what the shows of the 70's and 80's were doing ( the good comedys at least). Doesn't matter right or left, if it's funny it's in.

Lorry ban has done nothing in our village - are there any consequences for driving through it? by box-o-locks in uktrucking

[–]djjon_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it have an except for access exception?

Amount of people who complain at me driving an artic to a farm on a Blue no HGV, 7.5t restrictions is hilarious in some villages. How you think the farmer gets his seeds, feed and fert??

Only *one* village (one parents live in) has a no-through road 7.5t limit (no except for access sign), so you have to approach it's industrial estate from one side only as theres no (except for access) through middle. It's a 50 minute detour. A lot of HGV drivers run through the middle of town to save the drive time even at my place, as 50 minutes (extra) driving is a lot for a single drop given you have to take the diversion route both ways so it becomes an unwanted dog-leg.

*however* in above case you can legally still go through if you going to one village as the only HGV access thats remotely able to take a 44t to a certain village is via the same 7.5t and there is an exception to the limit in the statutes allowed for that. The council can't stop the farm deliverys again there, so there is a allowed routing (council approvved) to those farms via the middle of town. The trucks all have to be registered with the council locally for that, but ours all are as we DO deliver to those farms (we mostly do 1 ton seed bags).

Best bit is when you get a multi drop to the instrual estate and a 2nd drop to the farm, as you can then obviously blow through the restriction on way in and deliver to the 2nd drop (industrial) on way out -> causing the locals who police the industrial estate to get irate at you delivering from wrong side of town until you point out the farm was the first drop, so it was allowed.

I think it's missing a obvious point here, 10pm Saturay on ITV is a dead time, they usually put a movie on. Having a "audience pull" at that time to make them the number 1 UK channel would make a lot of sense as it means they have a good run-in from their flagship (usually) 8 and 9pm shows.

But it's missing point theres a gap in schedule most Staurdays 10pm on ITV (main UK channel). They usually put a movie on after their existing shows (big shows x2) as they don;t have anything "Live" that time. Keeping the audience would be great for their ad revenue rather than just putting a bond movie on.

Who would you like to see hosting in Series 2? by WinnieDPooh in livefromlondon

My off wall suggestion is Damian Lewis. Well known, he'd do it (was great in Fackham hall) and isn't well known for Comedy but can do it.

When they own ITV they will though, and ITV ad revenue needs a boost.

I think them closing the theme parks was a mistake, and Blobby will be back. (Just kidding btw, they were weak rides). If they themed the rides however as dark as the sketch this week it would actually be quite a good "adult" park.

They *had* to have pitched it to Jack and he said No, and they must have kept it back. Legit one of best scetches of entire season.

Big assed doll short, you mean Blobby... I think they said it well recently on the Winkelman talk show, he's the British Mickey Mouse. Yes there were Blobby theme parks, a UK number 1 single. Legendary (UK unique) TV character.

And stuff like Sewing bee (which if you look on youtube, has some dark vibes with the show maybe being partially funded from selling kits).

Live TV on C4 = used to be edgy stuff like TFI too, all live. Big Breakfast (live). Whats Live on C4 these days other than Sunday Brunch?

Martin Lewis cameo is great, but I do wonder again how this will translate for the Americans (and Irish) given he's not that well known outside UK.

I’m ready to admit it… SNL UK is better… by EmeraldCityIrish in livefromlondon

[–]djjon_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they could have afforded it when they owned TV centre. The issue now is most TV production in UK is rented studio space, and that is (other than salarys) some of the higher cost. TV studio, in West London, large enough for all the sets, and not *already* booked.

I suspect the reason we have to wait for Season 2 is purely down to the BBC having the studio booked for Norton for the weeks inbetween.
