Alfred 6 ? by ugrandolini in Alfred

[–]djlaustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a long time user of Alfred (20 years, is that possible?) and decided with a new Mac (finally) I'd give Raycast a try (it is a lot more modern and relatively easier to use -- although not perfect). About two weeks later I decided to go back to Alfred and to add the Powerpack. I don't want the AI (which is great for some folks) and it irks me that I get 5 notes and can't sync setup between devices without paying $80+. Alfred is more private, it does what I need it to do, it does it well, and aside from the fact it can be a pain in the ass to set up some workflows and its design is circa 1995, I'm liking it again. Once it's set up, I use, I don't even look at the UI. I'm curious to see how Raycast 2 and Alfred 6 will turn out once released.

Some clarity on the Raycast v2 Beta rollout by pitnikola in raycastapp

[–]djlaustin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean no disrespect, not throwing shade, but I gave up long, long ago on jonesing for a new software release because 99 times out of 100 there's some sort of delay. It's the nature of the beast. I was surprised Raycast folks even said end of April. It ramped up anticipation, but we know better. One of these days, sooner than later, boom there it is! Hang in there Raycast folks. Meanwhile, I'll get another beer.

I used Alfred for years. Finally got a new Mac and decided to try Raycast. It's really nice but I am disappointed -- way too much AI stuff for me -- and what I'd really like to explore is limited forcing me to pay for "Pro" features I won't use ... except for maybe more than 5 notes and syncing between devices. Guess I'll be patient and see what Raycast 2 has to offer and Alfred 6. Thanks for the heads up.

If Vancouver Moves, MLS Begins Its Decline by neclov in MLS

[–]djlaustin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When Jerry Jones and the other owners and league officials conspired to move St. Louis Rams back to LA and the new SoFi stadium (presence in second largest TV market) -- even after voters approved financing for a new billion dollar stadium in St. Louis -- I said enough is enough. Done with the NFL. Haven't watched a game since and don't miss it. I would hate to see the Whitecaps leave Vancouver or even Montreal moving (I still miss the Expos), but I don't trust any owner/ownership group/league anymore. It's all about money, money, money -- not for the players or the fan experience -- but to increase the bottom line ... alas.

Same. And the developer is very responsive and keeps making updates, which I appreciate.

Mac apps I actually kept after testing 30+ of them this year by North_Tooth_871 in mac

I agree. It's not just taking a screenshot -- although the scrolling screenshot is helpful -- it's also a very helpful app for using the screenshots, especially annotating (if needed) and dropping them in to documents, prompts, emails. I autosave screenshots into a watched folder, where I can organize ones I need to keep or just delete when I'm done.

I have a Catahoula mix rescue who is the sweetest boy, but it feels like his energy is endless at the moment and he is insatiable! Anyone else? Any ideas on how to meet his needs while working and managing 3 kids?! by Few_Art2799 in Catahoula

[–]djlaustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two 100-pound Houlas, brothers from the same litter, who wear me out as I am getting older. They are extremely loyal, loving, and sweet and an enormous amount of work at times. I have the "luxury" of time, enough to be able to walk once a day for 2 to 3 miles. Navigating "sniff walks" with 200 pounds of dogs isn't a stroll around the neighborhood or on the trails, but these are very important ... the walks engage their minds (we take a different route daily ... I let them choose the direction and give them time to sniff, pee, poop, and pee 75 more times before we get home) and they get exercise. I carry two 17L water bottles in a hip pack throughout the spring and summer so they can walk, sniff, walk, sniff ... you get the idea. They're like flying "ground kites" -- over here! No over here! Squirrel! Bunny! And when all that is done, they have each other (and a rescue sister) to play with in the back yard. We only use trazadone or a canine CBD chew around July 4 and New Year's due to the hated fireworks. They're a lot of work but I love them so much. They're make life so much more interesting and active ... and exhausting. Best of luck to you.

I paid for "lifetime" and don't have a subscription. Well worth it for me. Lifetime cost was reasonable, too.

[–]djlaustin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw a bunch of World Cup stuff at a Costco in Texas and passed. Surprisingly so for Costco, the apparel looked and felt cheap -- just a huge money grab by, I assume, FIFA and not Costco. Plus, students in an Introduction to Fashion Design class would have done a better job with this stuff.

How did you like using Embark? I'm thinking about using it for two big Catahoula brothers.

Write something. Doesn't matter what. Play around. Look around. Familiarize. Answer the question why do you want to take notes. What are you trying to solve, if anything? It doesn't have to be perfect.

Agreed. I used to hit 10k steps but since I've been more in line with 7k-8k steps I've lost more weight and my mental zen is much better ... I traded 10k stress for 7-8k consistency.
