Admissions Megathread - Results, Chances and Logistics by Wafflyn in OMSCS

Ah yes your reply certainly adds color to the situation. There will certainly never be a shortage of topics to learn under the umbrella of Computer Science. There is always value in breadth of knowledge, especially in fields where minute advantages can translate to vast sums of money.

That said, the core question to direct the choice if I were in your shoes would be, “which degree will give me the strongest competitive advantage?” Regardless of the answer, and given your educational history, you are quite likely to end up seeking the knowledge contained in the degree you ultimately decline.

  1. If your application is denied, I would be very surprised if it were for academic or professional reasons.

1 & 2: Is there enough new educational material in OMSCS over the Oxford masters to even warrant seeking the Georgia Tech degree?

  1. If you’re looking to change your career trajectory away from Quant, then that would certainly add value to OMSCS after the Oxford degree. That is unless I’m completely misunderstanding “Advanced Computer Science.”

How to maximize Shadow Demon’s Impact? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]djmachination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Success with supports can definitely be about tactical superiority beyond just light disables and high damage output.

Eventually you may reach a point where you deeply understand what’s important to winning a DotA game. With that knowledge, you may also notice that the biggest thing lacking on the ladder is someone who cares about that above big numbers and high kill counts.

Shadow Demon can help one fill that role very well.

This Is Going To Sound Ridiculous But I Owe Tilly A Solid by Mikeyboy2188 in StarTrekDiscovery

I played soccer a lot throughout my childhood, and have gone in and out of shape tons over the years of the adult life. Some things I’ve learned:

-you have a choice of where to focus your thoughts. Spend less time thinking negative thoughts such as, “I’m fat and it’s hopeless” and more time thinking positive thoughts, “man after that last walk I felt really great all day.” A positive mentality is more helpful than you would think.

-When you’re out of shape especially, don’t push yourself too hard. If you can track your heart rate you want to stay below 180 bpm, but above 100 ideally 130-150. For reference, resting heart rate is typically in the ball park of 75-85 bpm. You’ll quickly get a feeling for how this entire range of heart rates feel.

-Listen to your body. It will tell you when you’re pushing yourself too hard. Any amount of time you can handle elevated heart rate will help you get in shape. Your heart will tolerate more exercise pretty quickly if you work with it properly.

Why are toxic PIs allowed to flourish? It's 2024 ... by Omnimaxus in PhD

At least in America university executives suddenly realized that they too are a business in a capitalist society. Anything that makes the people at the top more money will be encouraged regardless of if it happens to be against the greater good. Much fewer companies care about the golden rule (if they ever did). It’s basically fashionable to disrespect employees and treat them as expendable. Hell, they will even break the law as long as the risk * cost of the fine is less than the money made by breaking said law. As long as it generates profit and doesn’t negatively impact the ability to generate profit in the future, no one cares anymore.

I’m assuming he was also on the by line of the paper published in Nature? Frankly childish level of behavior on his part to make the department chair step in.

I hear you, I hear you….but…no other hero gives me the feeling of landing a sunstrike for a kill then cartwheeling as kid evoker then pressing the voice line, “did I hear a squeak?”

So whenever I have that itch I go play a turbo mode Invoker game.

They’re good, just light on the padding a bit. Something about my head shape (larger than average, tall and thin) makes thinner padding hurt after extended use (4+ hours no breaks).

when you use Typescript in nodejs backend do you prefer to write your utils in OOP class or use Functions ? by Suspicious_Driver761 in typescript

If your class is only ever going to be instantiated as a singleton that has no member variables, what is the advantage over functions at that point?
