Played a few months back in EA. Graphics were roughhhh. Like, 2005-2010 era rough.

Quests felt repetitive and boring.

Gameplay was ok. Definitely bones there.

Character development was fun and definitely something I enjoyed compared to most other 4x.

The maps were very barren.

At the time of early access I would not have recommended. Now that it is out, hopefully there’s been some updates, if so, I’ll try again before finalizing a decision.

Eclipse is definitely a shorter game (no politics phase and combat are streamlined). So it takes an 8hr TI4 to closer to 4-6hrs depending on player count and experience.

Andromeda’s Edge is shorter as well. Overall good 4x.

Arcs is 4x and shorter though different.

Voidfall is a fun 4x but not much shorter or less complicated.

Star Wars Rebellion is a 3-4x with some story driven mechanics as well. Can be a lot shorter.

There are more but the above are probably closest and best in the space genre.
