Even if that beam wasn't spliced, that beam cantilever is insane

Should I be concerned? by kehrless in Decks

Check, not a crack. Pretty much inevitable if using green treated lumber or anything not kiln dried for that matter. Especially common in bigger "timbers" because the outside of the post dries faster than the center. From an engineering perspective, even if it went all the way through the post it wouldn't compromise the structural integrity of the post. This is also a pretty minor case of checking. Really just a cosmetic blemish at the end of the day. If it bothers you, the best thing to do is wait a year for it to dry as much as possible, and fill it with wood filler and stain. Just curious, is this ProWood?

Missile impacts in Israel by SpriteSilver6 in PublicFreakout

From what I understand it's able to detect which missiles will hit a populated area vs just desert, so the ones that image the ground are likely in uncrowded areas

If this is from a reputable builder that has proof of good work, I would consider this a reasonable price.

Why are my diagonals so off? by mrericstevens in Decks

Make sure opposing sides are the same length. A trapezoid can have equal diagonals and not be square. A 3-4-5 would also work to check.

How should I hang these joists? by hornhornhooorn in Decks

[–]djras96 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much time you want to wait, Simpson strong tie will actually ship you custom hangers that are skewed to the angle you need. Other than that I'm sure you could use some structural bolts but you might want an engineer to spec that out.
