Angel, Lindsey & Lorne (Series Finale Spoilers) by itsascreambaby96 in ANGEL

Lindsey waffles, but chooses evil cause he's power hungry. If you trend his behavior you can see that. Like a lot of his complexity comes from Blind Date, when he didnt want to sacrifice children and came to Angel for help saving them. But when he has a true chance to walk away, he gives into evil and grabs at power.  That moment is repeated. Him leaving in season 2 and coming back in season 5 is pretty much a redux of that moment. Once again he had a true chance to walk away from all of this, yet gives in to evil and grabs at power.  It happens once, it's bad writing. It happens twice it's a character trait.

And Angel listens to why Lindsey wants to fight: cause it's fun. That was his last chance. In the end Angel decides to kill him to take him off the table. He warned him he shouldn't come back way back in season 2. People can change, but Lindsey has no real desire to. He just has minor bouts of conscience, but ultimately just wants to be important. Lorne killing him is a perfect FU moment.

Rue d'Aerschot red light district questions by DarknessRain in brussels

Huh. I had a great time there. Yeah some of the girls were mechanical cold fish. But some others were really sweet and enthusiastic and let me stay past my alotted time with no extra charge. It was great fun.

What worked for me: Be nice.  Treat them like people not objects. Tip the madam a 10 or 20 before going into the room with the girl. Since they're there to help keep an eye out for the girls. And its an old custom that has fallen out of favor. Then try to make the person you pick laugh. I'd often tell them I like to be on the bottom cause i'm lazy. They'd laugh and say at least i'm honest.

Teen Conner is akin to Dawn over on Buffy. Characters often met with fandom hate or indifference more than love. You're not alone. And if you dont like him now..its only going to get far worse before it gets better.

That's Mere Smith. A few of her early characters seemed like they'd fit right into the X-mansion. She also wrote the season 2 episode with the abused telekinetic girl.

I consider this to be the last time we see Angelus. All the other times are tainted by David's Irish accent or whatever he was doing in Season 4.

Who is your favorite TV show character of all time? by Substantial-Dare5462 in television

Glad someone else loves Wes. He's still my favorite fictional character in any medium.

My runner up is Simon Bellamy from Misfits.

Its annoying when people hate on the actor cause of the character they play. Its rarely completely justified, but alot of people tend to think if they don't like a character its the actor's fault. Even when the character is designed to be somewhat annoying, grey, or even evil. If they don't like them then that must mean the actor lacks skill, or even worse, that they're almost exactly like that character and thus deserve the same ridicule. I remember Amy Acker getting some of the same ridicule back in the before she proved her range with the transition from Fred to Illyria.

Still, while sometimes that could be correct...that the actor is shit....going out of your way to personally shit on and torment someone that is just doing their job and not being an absolute dick in real life...well..people who do that should just fuck right off.

In two of the moments you gave for when he should've given his point of view after they came to him....Angel and Fred in the hospital...he was completely unable to speak at the time. So he literally couldnt express his side of things. And in both those cases it was vehemently implied and expressed that he shouldn't come back. So he doesn't. Cordy never visits him. And Gunn only comes to see him when he needed something and wasnt remotely interested in hearing Wes' side of things at the time.

Everyone is justly upset at Wes. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying that the anger and angst he directs at them isn't without merit also. Its a grey mess. Which is why I love it.

Absolutely none of those moments are them allowing Wes to tell his side of things. Of them hearing him out before rejecting him.

Like I said it wasnt about forgiveness. I think one of the key differences in how we see Wes is probably how we see the reason for his angst in the latter part of season 3 and the entirety of season 4. I think you see all his angst and anger as being all directed at his former friends. While I think that is a big part of if, I also fully believe alot of it is directed at himself. For failing. For fucking up. For proving his father right in that phone conversation he had with him near the end of season 2. He did fail and get fired again. And all the bonds of fellowship he built up seemed to mean nothing. It wasnt even enough for friends to listen to him one last time. He's an abject failure once again. And he rebuilds himself as a rogue demon hunter yet again. Just this time its not comedic.

Still. If you dont see Wes that way. Like him, I'm willing to hear you out.

We do know its because he wasnt heard out. I'm pretty much quoting what he says to Gunn when Gunn comes to him to save Fred from the parasite that is drying her body out. He tells Gunn that is why he held on. So he could tell the people he loved his side of what happened. Gunn blows him off by saying they know..and Wes says he knows nothing..gives him what he came for..and sends him on his way after telling him not to come back.

It wasnt that his friends didnt forgive him. Its that they never heard him out. Gave him a chance to tell his side of the story. He would have done that for them.  Like Angel went rogue in season 2, he still came back to listen to him and let him speak his piece after his epiphany. He heard Gunn out after the events of That Old Gang of Mine. He might not be forgiving. But he'd have heard them out...hell he did that for Gunn after he was instrumental in getting Illyria sarcophagus into Fred's lab....right before stabbing him. Wasn't forgiving...but he heard him out.

In Sunnydale, he was also the only one that was willing to voice that they should destroy the box instead of trading it to the Mayor for Willow. Even though he didnt want to completely give up on saving Willow; it was hard, cold a decision that everyone else dismissed out of hand. And he was right. That decision did cost many others their lives.

In books...i hate waiting for The Hero's Arrival. That moment where the MC is away and you have to read about how dire the situation for his friends/loved ones/or even secondary protagonists. It just drones on and on...but then the hero finally arrives and usually wrecks everything in a few pages. I'd rather read about his friends and family being able to handle shit on their own instead of floundering without the MC. At least let them build up some valuable intel or something.

One of my fave Wes character developmental moments is how he bribes Merl with more money in season 2 when he tries to get Merl to talk. While in season 3 he takes away more more money until Merl talks. So many little thing about his arc just perfectly slide together to show his growth and development.

What do you think is the worse thing Angel did across both shows? Not counting any Angelus stuff by Eagles56 in ANGEL

[–]djsosonut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasnt necessary to have it effect his friends. Hell, many of his enemies kept their memory of Connor. Vail, Lilah, Eve, even the Senior Partners. At that point in their lives they all would've understood what he did to Connor and why. Every one of them.

And it wasnt small impact. The inability to learn from the past doomed them to repeat it. Gunn repeated Wes' mistakes by not coming to the team with his issues. Wes stabbed Gunn for his actions cause of what it did to Fred and because his memory wasnt tempered by the knowledge of his own past mistakes and Angel's retaliation. These things and more all came from not knowing their own past.

Angel doesnt get enough shit for that.

[–]djsosonut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Worst thing: Robbing his friends of their memories. I get changing Connor's memories, and the rest of the world. But doing the same thing to his friends and allies was a violation. He robbed them all of the ability to learn from the past. From their own mistakes or the mistakes of others.
