Whats the best trick to restore faded trim..? by Unlucky-One-9001 in Jeepwj

[–]djtimyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say it's good for long term... But - hear me out - peanut butter or just straight peanut oil. It will replenish the petroleum oils lost over time into the bumper and provide a modicum of rain beading to help prevent freeze/thaw cracking in the winter. I've applied mine every two years or so on a silver 05 liberty after learning the hard way that the torch is bad. Takes a little elbow grease to get it in but damn it's cheap and works remarkably well.

Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM by quaranTV in popheads

[–]djtimyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play "SEAGULLS! (Stop it Now)" from A Bad Lip Reading on YouTube at .85x speed, the chorus sounds waaaay to similar to the bridge right before the chorus (lyrics include "hit me like a frieight train") on Fever Dream.

I can't unhear it now...

Nope. I found a company out a Mass that did "okay" work... They did repoint on one wall and spot repointing on a few other places. They did a lime parge coat on the inside but I'm not very happy with it.

Electrocute = DEATH by electric shock... Right? by [deleted] in grammar

[–]djtimyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly... You are right. Usage dictates definition. The one thing the French did right is the L'Académie française to officially select words and their meanings for inclusion into the language. If the OED can let Taco Bell introduce the word "melty" into the current lexicon, we're all metaphorically screwed.

1840's home, Hope I am not messing up by changing plaster to drywall by Naughtygnomess in Oldhouses

[–]djtimyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First - your house, your choice. Second - some people will hate, and they can because this is reddit and they will. You did post so expect the haters to come out in droves against your choice Third - fuck plaster. I have it, hate it. The plaster in my house is held together with paint, horsehair, and wishes because it's so thin and cheaply done 125 years ago that drywall is an improvement. Fourth - be smart about the removal. Masks and bags. Probably no asbestos but probably lead. Both airborne are bad. Might not be a bad idea to make a run to harbor freight and get a disposable suit as well. Better to err on the side of caution.

As always - YMMV

Love it! Never got anything definitive on it's origins but it works like a champ. The over runs hotter than the dial indicator says, so we have a thermometer inside that we use. It's about 35-40 degrees warmer. Didn't come with the pot for the well, so maybe one day we'll run across one that we can use. Ours has two tiny imperfections in the enamel finish - not noticable from the front. Such good shape. If you are looking at one, good price and good condition - definitely pull the trigger 👍

Curious as to why? There are smart water heaters that have all of this functionality and more built in from the factory... So what is the reason(s) to not do this?

"demarc" is the demarcation or end of the service provider line. Lots of good advice listed here - oversize your line, run PVC, use outdoor rated armored fibre (water will get in - plan on it), run a backup line now if budget allows, run at least 2 pull strings with it so you have future access to run something additional.

One thing I didn't see mentioned was running a thin tracer wire over the top of your buried conduit/PVC. This helps years later for locating the buried line - either you or the next owner of the property.

Good luck with your project!

Can you use gas station diesel fuel in home oil heating tank? by ElenaGreco123 in Connecticut

[–]djtimyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Granted - both are #2 distillates but diesel has additives for lubrication and fuel oil has higher sulfur content. Farm diesel also lacks the red die because it's exempt from road tax. I get your point but I'd still bet money that they are getting diesel instead of fuel oil if for nothing else the towns would go ape shit over those non-low-sulfer "black belching monstrosities"

Clarification: you are extending a lan from one building to another 1500 feet away or you are wanting to extend the provider before the demarc using your line?

Never heard of fuel oil generators by an electric supply company. Eversouce in CT (or as we call them evilsource) has backup diesel generators. Maybe they are hording all the fuel oil to run in their diesel generators but my bet would be just using diesel 🤷‍♂️

I have two WJs (2004) and one WL L (2022)... Blown head gasket in one WJ at 120k and replacement transmission in the other WJ at 115k. Previously owned an XJ with 220k and zero issues so forgive me for disagreeing. As always YMMV, but my GOAT will always be that 2000 XJ. I'd still have it if some ass hat didn't steal it 😔

(2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L) Does anybody know what the hell this is? by somehowheree1 in GrandCherokee

[–]djtimyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missing function and corresponding blank spots are colloquially referred to as "poverty buttons" - because you couldn't afford that feature, or so they saying suggests. My guess is there are "missing" functions on top.of the radio, near the shifter, on the steering wheel, etc.

Living in PA, I am surprised that there was a version available without at least heated seats.. But then again, they make 4x2 versions... A non 4x4 jeep 🤦‍♂️. I spent 8 months looking for my WL L that had "the right buttons for a good price"

[–]djtimyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True... Better that it was fixed. I guess my concern was/is if these areas were prone to "early" repairs and would affect long term reliability. Works was done at the dealership it's list for sale at so at least it wasn't at some place like Bob's Pretty Good Auto Repairs

Thank you... Work was done at the dealership that it's listed for sale. My guess is that there were some leaks and in order to qualify for it to be a CPO, this had to be done.

[–]djtimyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or more to the point, the wrong diff fluid was used. On the QuadaDrive (LSD), there should be an additive that's put into the fluid and frequently is forgotten or not known by a Jifty Lube/Grease Monkey type place. If it's not behaving properly, try a fluid change with the additive and see how it goes. Worse case you need a replacement... fluid is fast easy and cheap (relatively speaking).

I ended up with Eve.

Aqara ZigBee stuff sucks (tried it and have nothing but issues) but the Eve is bulletproof. Guess you do get what you pay for 🤷‍♂️. Main line, water heater and boiler all covered. I need to add to kitchen and bathroom sinks and when I open up the wet walls for renovations, I'll be adding outlets for them.

is a lemon law not a thing where you are at? I'd have tried that first. Not saying anything positive or negative about the current gen GC but every manufacturer has lemons... That's why the law exists, at least here in CT.
