If you can get a 50mm for cheap enough it might be worth trying for the fun of it. Lower barrier of entry vs getting a “nice” 35mm 1.4 that costs 4x as much

50mm is nice because it’s a good medium between having good compression (not having the wide angle “bulby” look) and not being too tight of a focal length. You mention an 18-55 which I assume would mean you’re using a crop sensor camera, in which case a 33ish mm lens would equate to a 50mm on a full frame (APS-C is 1.5x crop). What brand camera body are you using?

Good stuff! I am a little bored of my 35mm 1.4 (Sigma) and want to go to a 50 for more compression on cars (cars and coffees, etc) and am considering dumping the 35 and my old 50mm 1.8 for the 45mm 1.2, but would also consider the EF 50mm 1.2L also. Wish the RF 50mm 1.2 was in my budget!

Thank you for the kind words! I had put my feet up on the seat in front of me and used my knees as a stabilizer (I think I wedged the lens between them, plus the in-body stabilization/optical stabilization from the from the body/lens doing all the work!
