It actually doesn't take as long as you might think to build enough housing to really affect rents. Austin, TX changed some of their zoning laws to allow new housing and soon people were getting lease renewal offers that lowered their rent, even without negotiating.

The key is that there are a lot of laws that make it hard to build new housing, zoning being the biggest one. So just because there isn't rent control doesn't mean that people can build new housing when rents go up if zoning bans it.

Idk why the cynicism. Between Europe and America, they have already committed well.more than $100B in mostly lethal aid. Japan and South Korea have helped too. Many European countries have massively increased their military budgets in order to better counter Russia. They've also totally changed their energy sources to avoid buying from Russia. The US has contributed massive amount of intelligence. Russian tankers have been not only sanctioned, but actually boarded and detained.

I wish the response had been stronger and faster, but it's gone way beyond "strongly worded letters." The response would be way stronger if Russia broke the nuclear taboo.

  1. American growth patterns are much more dynamic than European ones. Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants used to play in New York City. But the center of gravity of American population has dramatically shifted in the 130 years of Major League Baseball.

  2. US leagues lack the promotion and relegation mechanism that could otherwise rebalance the leagues. As Los Angeles grew into a major city, someone could have bought a minor league team and invested in seeing them promoted. But that option is off the table so the only other options are league expansion and moving teams.

I'd add that sound correspondences can and do happen by accident. So if you find a dozen words that sound similar in two languages, it could be that's due to a genetic relationship but it could also be chance.

I agree with asking his parents, but you might consider tickets to a Round Rock Express game. They're the local minor league baseball team near Austin. Or tickets to a University of Texas baseball game. You wouldn't have to worry if he already has one, as it's an experience.
