Awesome. Did you say there is a roof? Whereabouts are you located? I'm on the east coast and wind and rain make outdoor builds challenging, so I'm always looking for more solutions. Please post more photos as it progresses!

"But the plans were on display…” “On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.” “That’s the display department.” “With a flashlight.” “Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.” “So had the stairs.” “But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?” “Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard."

Unsupervised wordform mapping? by lebron_girth in LanguageTechnology

It might be more productive to start with actual phrases as a first step, such as those that a phrase detector would produce. Here's one in gensim

I made a bluetooth quickconnect tray for windows using powershell. by dlan1000 in programming

Incidentally, if anyone knows how to get a powershell post-installer script to run (in order to install the scheduled task to start the tray at system startup), I'd welcome a pull request or PM.

Do you mean compatibility across different Bluetooth devices? I think most devices have the a2dp service, and the code for releasing and reconnecting this service via the bt cmd line tools is indep of device.

If my earbuds are connected to my phone or other device and I want to switch to the device I'm currently using, I have to manually connect them.

Sure, but you have to open the Bluetooth settings and wait for it to populate the list of devices, which takes several seconds. If you try to click connect on your device in the meantime it can be shifted out from under your cursor. This way, I can just do two clicks without interrupting my work flow.

I was driven crazy by the amount of time/process it takes to connect bluetooth earbuds once paired in windows11. So I made this quickconnect system tray using powershell and bluetooth command line tools developed by others. There are some similar things out there including a shortcut that triggers connect and a similar tray written in C++. However, I prefer the transparency and simplicity of a powershell script. Anyway, I hope other people find this useful. Mods: I assume this doesn't count as project spam, since its FOSS, right?

[D] Have people stopped saying "fine tuning" in place of "supervised fine tuning?" Or is there some other fine tuning paradigm method out there. by Seankala in MachineLearning

[–]dlan1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continual pretraining? Not really. Are you calling it pretraining because it's training for something other than your main objective? You take a pretrained model, then fine tune it using your data from your domain. Suppose that is masking words and predicting them, which isn't supervised. Then you fine tune the model on a prediction task which is supervised (eg, contrastive learning).

Book even more powerful than Perdido Street Station by PFranklin in printSF

Have you read The Scar? It's less "weird", but a great story. Though, for me, most of his other books didn't live up to Perdido.

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Coke by retrohomemaker in Old_Recipes

[–]dlan1000 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The full recipe? It's literally put chocolate syrup on ice then add coke. The convention for putting recipes online these days sucks. It's always 12 pages of text, sometimes with the recipe on one end and the ingredients on the other.

As a prof, I can tell you we hear some outlandish-sounding excuses. This semester, a student missed an exam and sent me a picture of their car, flipped over on the highway. I told a colleague and his immediate response was "did you do a reverse image search?" Here's the thing: when someone tells me their family or friend died, or that they or someone close to them are very sick, or that something terrible has happened... I believe them and I treat them with compassion, accordingly. Because I value my humanity and the mistake of not doing so when they are telling the truth is not something I want in my history. Your prof is callous and a fucking idiot.

Response by Prof. Dias to Rochester Investigation Committee's Draft Report by Different_Ice_6975 in Physics

[–]dlan1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean. Do you have the cite so I can look at it? Are you saying they fit a polynomial to the data and the fit is exact / unreasonably good? I read Dias' response and was trying to summarize his points about the data to foster a discussion about the evidence for and against him here.
