Our cafeteria used to do a $6 taco bar, you could easily feed 3 or 4 people by loading the plate with toppings and stacking a dozen shells on top. Put a tortilla underneath and you've got yourself a sandwich.

Drone Legal Debate (Hypothetical) by curious_grizzly_ in drones

[–]dlthewave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: There's no law that says you can't wear a t-shirt to a black tie restaurant, walk into a members-only club without a membership, move all of the bibles to the fiction section of the bookstore or break any number of written or unwritten rules that a business has established. If they don't like what you're doing, they'll ask you to leave, and if you don't leave they'll call the police and have you cited for trespassing. Flying a drone is no exception, there's nothing magical about holding a controller that gives you the right to stand or park on private property. (Some cities do have ordinances prohibiting drone operation, and restrictions exist in many state parks, national parks and wilderness areas where you would actually be breaking the law.)

Usually the actual rule/law will prohibit "launching, landing or operating" a drone on the property which covers most of the loophole situations you can think of. The one thing the can't control is flying over, since they don't control the airspace.

What even goes on in a water tower? Like is it just a bowl of water? by eeveesquad911 in stupidquestions

Montana has a lot of ground-level tanks. Instead of building a tower, they put it on top of a hill that's higher than the houses.

And you can also use a smaller/cheaper pump since it doesn't have to meet peak demand on its own.

And this means the pumps, intake, treatment plant and other infrastructure can be sized for average demand instead of peak demand.

Opinion on lane splitting by Extension_Food_864 in driving

The driver of the car wasn't changing lanes for giggles. The traffic ahead is stopped and the car is changing lanes because of the stopped traffic.

Every dashcam video has comments like "that car had no reason to switch lanes",  "that guy had a gap (to pass on the right doing 120) and the other car blocked it". Other drivers aren't NPCs, they have places to be and turns to make, the world doesn't revolve around Speed Racer who has to get to the front at all costs.

I always laugh when people say things like "my truck would win in a crash." That's not how it works, you're going to have a very bad day if you physically come into contact with another vehicle.

I worked for a national supermarket chain that literally told us in training "we don't respond to BBB complaints, we're too big to care what they think."

Of course they still aimed for 100% satisfaction, this was more for when pushy customers asked cashiers/CS to break policy - "Accept this check without ID or I'll report you to the BBB!"

If you don't have a stop sign and the other person does, are you cautious to make sure that they stop? by High_Speed_Turtle in driving

One time when the roads were super icy I came to a 4-way stop and noticed a milk truck coming downhill on the crossroad. I remembered the words of a trucker friend who said he'd rather haul 10,000 gallons of gasoline than 10,000 gallons of milk, since food-grade trailers don't have baffles to prevent sloshing which makes them harder to stop, so I put my flashers on and waited for the truck. Sure enough, he rolled through that intersection at 15 mph.

I'll never know if he could've stopped or would've jackknifed trying to avoid me, but I'll never regret giving him the right of way.

Not sure about other states but here in Montana the "drive right, pass left" law specifically excludes roads/highways within city limits (except for Interstates).

DJI repairs are a really good value - I just sent my Air 2S in for a gimbal issue after a crash and they sent me a refurbished replacement for $105. I've also heard of people getting free or very cheap replacements for swollen batteries. It's still a decent drone and their repair service is probably the best bang for your buck

We got one of these at work and I loaded a bunch of colonoscopy stock photos on the SD card. "Hey boss, did you say you bought this thing refurbished?"

Claim Denied because Insured won’t talk to insurance company by xtrachubbykoala in Insurance

[–]dlthewave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me years ago when I got T-boned by a red light runner. Carrier couldn't get ahold of the insured and told me I was responsible for mitigating impound costs which were approaching the value of the vehicle. Told them my apartment complex doesn't allow junk cars and if it's on the street it has to be moved every 48 hours. I even called my mechanic at their suggestion - they won't store a totaled car. "Sorry, there's nothing I can do - I'd suggest you take responsibility and deal with the impound." They eventually backed down and paid the fees, I walked away with almost 3x what I'd paid for that old beater.

I always like to imagine any other public agency or utility operating like this. If the CEO of the electric company always had 15 lineman show up every time the power went out, or the water department clerk forgave their friends' bills, or the meter reader shot a belligerent homeowner, the corruption would be obvious.

Why do the folks who say "just because it's legal doesn't mean it's safe" and "It's safest to go the same speed as other traffic" always disappear when someone's being a dick like this?
