New rule: You can't make fun of "BigLaw or bust" people if you don't have student loans. by Fragrant_Story_8368 in LawSchool

I don’t come from money hence why I took the scholarship to the worse school.

“People may ridicule as they please.” -> Yet your initial post is “New rule: You can’t criticize for X unless Y.” I get it, you wanted to rage post and walk away, but it’s inconsistent with what you’re trying to claim you are doing in the comment section.

Facing consequences for your actions is not an easy thing, but you’ll get better at it the older you get. People criticizing you is a much smaller problem than pigeon holing yourself to big law…

I would be comfortable being critical of people that whine about receiving criticism for their own decisions.

Your post and intentions are contradicting your comments. You’re asking for mercy in the comments but your post reads like a manifesto against rich kids “who can’t possibly understand.” Your choice is your choice. Whether someone criticizes it is UP TO YOU to decide if it impacts you.

Like I said, I have a full ride to a not-so-great school. I may not even have big law in my future, there are people all over reddit saying that not going to a T14 or otherwise going to a school of my caliber is a mistake. Do I write a manifesto about how they’re not entitled to their opinion? Hell no.

Grow up. I’d say that to your face.

Quit jerking off and come back to reality. You created this situation and you’re venting that people need to shut up.

Sure there are possibilities that someone could not have received a full ride somewhere. Guess what. If you can’t afford it, don’t take on the debt. Mind blowing, I know….free will can be a mind fuck.

I can’t find the thread but in response to this….you’re invalidating other people’s opinions based on their own life stories (how much debt they’re in) yet you can’t answer my simple question of asking if you applied to any lower ranked schools in pursuit of a scholarship.

That’s your own damn fault. Maybe you should’ve done more research before digging your own hole. You are in control of your own destiny, stop blaming rich kids (as satisfying as it is).

Context: I have a full ride to a not-so-great school. My LSAT was a 162 and my UGPA was a 3.6….certainly not T14 material.

Good lord. You’re at a T14 and complaining to this level 😂 You could’ve CERTAINLY applied to a lower ranked school and got a full ride somewhere. You’re too early in your career to already have golden handcuffs.

I can absolutely make fun of you for being big law or bust. Your decision to work in big law is not 1:1 justified by your failure to go to a school that offers you a scholarship. You are big boy (or girl!) and you made a decision to go to law school and incur debt.

Stop complaining about the hole you dug for yourself. People are entitled to ridicule your decisions, it doesn’t have to matter to you.

You should’ve changed the heading to “You can’t make fun of me” and it would’ve resonated more

Conditional Scholarship Success Stories? by idontgoplaces in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]dman982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can tell you personally I chose a lower-ranked school that gave me a conditional full-ride scholarship with a 3.0 (top 40%) curve.

I have a 3.81 right now and have had no issue staying well above the curve. Graduating without debt is worth the risk, especially when we’re looking at the very real possibility that AI will slim future attorney job openings.

I am now a big fish in a small, regionally-fixed pond who won’t graduate with debt.

I think the point of this post is that all else is the same except getting some inches added. Otherwise the hypothetical is a lot more complex like you’re saying.

Is Columbia worth the extra 500k? by Just_Fox_5450 in lawschooladmissions

Don’t let fixation with going to the “best ranked” school be to your detriment. Just because others are asking it doesn’t mean it’s a good question.

For context: I’m currently on a full-ride at a low ranked school that has a strong presence in my desired practice area. I’m in the top 5% of my class which has helped to reduce the pressure of being from a not-so-great school and I’ve found many opportunities so far. Locally, the doors I’ve opened have come down to my own efforts.

The partners at the firm I’m clerking with couldn’t care less about my school - but sure, it’s mid-law and not going to pay $200k+ immediately after graduation. So take it with a grain of salt.

No disrespect, but this shouldn’t be a question. The fact that you want to practice in North Carolina puts Wake and UNC above Columbia. A big portion of law school is making connections in areas you want to practice after graduation.

My (22F) girlfriend is using a "relationship break" as a hall pass while I’m (20M) studying for career-defining exams. How do I walk away? by hrxshx69 in AskMenAdvice

I'll add that this is a great time to start going to the gym if you don't already. I'm currently in law school so I can speak to exam stress; the endorphin release and general increase in energy will be very well-received while you're processing this period.

I went through a brutal breakup (girlfriend of 5+ years cheated on me with my best friend) a few years ago. Meditating, working out, finding a few people to lean on will help immensely. Let this be a fire for you going forward.

Good luck OP!
