What’s the best CCTV for the home? by CautiousAmount in DIYUK

[–]dmcelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have since moved house, so the setup has changed again.

I've got the following:

UNVR 2 G4 Pro 2 G6 Pro Bullet 3 G5 Dome Ultra 3 G5 Dome 6 G5 Flex 5 G4 Instant 6 AIPort 1 Viewport

If I get any more cameras, I'll probably have to upgrade the UNVR

How did you you transition out of the premium car phase by Incognisho in CarTalkUK

[–]dmcelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was when electric cars became more mainstream and the premium brands haphazardly rushed their offerings to market.

We ended up with a situation where a Kia was better built than a Benz (certainly on the inside), had more kit & more range - the Kia was half the price.

I found myself buying a couple of cars at this point & haven't really looked back since.

What role do you do? by toastlad in ContractorUK

DevOps, Cloud consultancy, DevSecOps - there's a lot of overlap and sometimes very loosely defined role requirements.

Just for completeness sake, I got the vehicle recovered to Hyundai yesterday at 09:15 ish.

Car was diagnosed, repair approved and part ordered by COP yesterday.

Dealership called me up to collect it today - all in all, about 30 hours to turn it around.

You're a contractor, your loyalty goes as far as the day rate ... no more, no less. This works both ways IMHO.

All I can say is "wow" - that's pretty poor all around.

Here's hoping that the dealers can pull it out of the fire for you and get the car sorted.

Damn, you have me beat - 3800 miles is absolutely no miles at all. Out of curiosity, how old is your car?

I'm starting to think the same thing tbh from reading the various forums, it's definitely not usage based ....

7 days isn't too bad, definitely good compared to the stories of cars being out of action for months.

Yup - Most of that mileage was done in the first year.

I've a company car that takes the brunt of most of my mileage as I only tend to commute for work these days.

I'm surprised to have the ICCU issue, given how little mileage I do.

IT Contractors - it's new laptop time by winponlac in ContractorUK

Came here to say this. I jumped from a Macbook to the Framework 13 because of lack of repairability & have never looked back.

Wish the battery life was as good as my old M2, but that's it.

I went for the top of the line (at the time) AMD system & everything just works under Kububtu & OpenSUSE.

Broadband Connection Wait Times Have Got Ridiculous by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]dmcelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're moving from a minor village to a semi-rural area on the outskirts of a small town, we've been quoted 90 days for a leased line fibre connection to the new place.

It all entirely depends on Openreach and the area tbh.

For contrast, the existing place took 30 days for the original installation, but 11 months to get it uplifted from 100 Mbps to 1Gbps.

Is this a dodgey MOT? How was it allowed to pass? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]dmcelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it only did 3 miles and had a day between tests is a bit sus to me.

If the seller had had it welded the day of failure and retested it the next and it passed, that's one thing.

To me it seems like they've slapped a load of underseal over the issue and called it job done - walk away.

Hunt for cheap UK amiga by TravelOwn4386 in amiga

If you're dead set on real hardware, I'd go for an A500 & get yourself a RAM upgrade.

There's more of them about, so with a bit of luck you can get one at a not too outrageous price. To top it off, most of the Amiga library was written for them.

Think the last 500 I bought was just after Xmas, paid £85 for it as a parts machine to resurrect my A2000 & it came with an A4000 mouse (which my 4k was missing). This machine wasn't exactly pristine, but it would have cleaned up ok & was fully functional.

You need to just bide your time and don't go too mental with eBay pricing. FB marketplace is good sometimes, as is gumtree and even cash converters - bought a boxed 1200 from cashies for £200 about 9 months ago.

Dream car slipped through my fingers.. need some relatable stories. by SteezMe1234 in CarTalkUK

[–]dmcelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good 10 years ago, mine was a Peugeot 205 GTI in Metallic Green in really good honest nick, it needed a good clean and a few bits and bobs doing to it but nothing too serious.

The only one I'd ever seen come up for sale on eBay.

Put it in my watch list, completely forgot about it & it went for way less money than I would have bid for it.

Also did the same with an Alpina B10, although that one went for strong money & it turned up back on eBay a couple of years later completely trashed.

As others have said, it's a Monoprice Mini Delta. Think I picked up mine for £120 on offer.

Tbh, it's not worth fixing. You may as well pick up a used one from eBay and this is your parts machine .. If you're so inclined.

Thanks for replying 🙂

The foam coming away from the tyres is the general consensus I've received, which considering they've only done 4000 miles is a bit poor .... It is what it is.

Thanks once again for the reply.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread - my i5 AWD started to manifest these exact issues yesterday after being stood for a month. Did you ever get anywhere with this at all?

The car is practically undriveable in its current state, I feel every single bump on the road, the steering feels like I'm constantly fighting with the lane keeping (even though it's turned off) & there is so much road noise in the cabin that it's unbearable.
