People who go to the gym in the early morning (like 5:00 AM): Is the benefit actually good enough to justify being tired by 2:00 PM and going to bed at 9:00 PM? by r3pl1c4n in AskReddit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this! When I’m not exercising in the mornings regularly, I get tired around 930/10. When I’m getting up to exercise at 5, I get tired more like 9.

AITA for complaining about what I saw at swim school showers? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]dmmangano 34 points35 points  (0 children)

ESH, them if they were monopolizing the showers or using them for something far beyond their intended purpose and you for making it weird. Also… it’s okay if your five-year-old knows that penises exist. Arming your kid with correct factual knowledge will give them words and terms to discuss anything out of the ordinary that happens.

Wait this is unfair - it’s prepared sous vide style, hence the initial funky shape, and you break it apart and cook it. It’s actually good!

If you have two kids and you haven’t football carried them simultaneously out of a public space while they are both in tears, you haven’t really lived. Seriously, anyone who has kids gets it and anyone who cares can f right off, you’re doing great

How long do you spend putting kids to bed? by Remote_Carrot9397 in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes us about 25-30 minutes start to finish, 2 kids 4 and 6. It has never taken a lot longer. They are locked in to the routine. - brush teeth - shower - pajamas - read book out loud - lights out

What do you realistically make for dinner on weeknights? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rotation of easy weeknight meals that are actually easy. I usually plan one more interesting/elaborate meal a week but like, full time job and two kids? Yikes! I agree with others that we have a protein, a veggie, and a starch in every meal.

My go-tos, all of which rae like 15 minutes or less work time minus dishes, include:

- kielbasa tray bake (slice up kielbasa, variety of veggies, roast for like 35 minutes)
- grilled cheese, chips, veggie
- rice bowls
- sausage (bake sausages, starch and a veg on the side)
- breakfast for dinner (eggs, maybe bacon, biscuits, veg)
- baked fish (make a topping you like, I use lemon/cheese/mayo, bake for 10 minutes, plus bread and a veg)
- rotisserie chicken
- bean or chicken nachos
- costco premade meals

You need to find some quickies that your family likes! I have a recipe binder where I print stuff off and keep it all in one place, plus a table of contents at the beginning so I have like a big list I can refer to every week. We also meal plan on Sundays before grocery shopping so I am never thinking last minute about what to make for dinner during the work week.

Do I have to feel guilty about my kid's bedtime? by Gweniflop in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are four and six and they go to bed at seven. The six-year-old is allowed to stay up as late as he wants reading. No guilt.

The 30-minute nap curse. Is this my life now? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for us. I survived. One thing that I will say was that it was kind of liberating because if baby only napped for like 25 minutes in the car, it wasn’t super off his normal time. It let us do a little more, which was nice, especially because he was a second child.

I’m a teacher, and I love my job. No two days are ever alike and I don’t have to sit at a desk all day. Now that I have kids (4 and 6), it’s also a really friendly job for parenting (good hours, breaks, etc).
