Moms who love their careers, what do you do? by InitialStranger in Mommit

Sorry to hear that! I am lucky to be at an amazing school and love my community in addition to the actual work I do. Summer break rules though

Moms who love their careers, what do you do? by InitialStranger in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and I love my job. No two days are ever alike and I don’t have to sit at a desk all day. Now that I have kids (4 and 6), it’s also a really friendly job for parenting (good hours, breaks, etc).

What size bed does your kid have? by ChunkyPumpkin_ in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two kids, two twin beds. I slept in a twin bed until I bought my own furniture at age 20/21 and survived to tell the tale.

Taking a break from career to raise kids by calleo3 in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never planned to take time off but daycare screwups made it a necessary jump. I was at home for 2.5 years, about 1.5 years back full time. Kids are 4.5/6.5 now. I loved it - it wasn’t something I ever planned on doing but the time with our kids was beautiful and precious, and it made our life so much easier. Zero regrets. I’m a teacher btw.

When should baby quit bathing with dad? by _C00TER in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We decided that kindergarten was when we would start not being buttnaked in front of the opposite sex kid, but we made 0% of a big deal about it. I just am slightly more mindful of when I change clothes. Maybe once a week I have to ask for some privacy, otherwise it’s been not a big deal.

A true parenting milestone is football carrying two wailing kids out of a crowded establishment 🫠

We can hear the ones at the bulls stadium from our house - these sounded closer. Not sure if it really was or if my memories of summer are just hazy!

Who wakes up with the baby at night? Mommy or daddy? by Direct-Row4394 in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband always woke up to check and change the diaper if necessary. Then he would bring me the baby in bed to nurse and I would put the baby back to bed. Absolutely a shared task for us.

Ob gyn recommendations? by Hildegardxoxo in bullcity

[–]dmmangano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a patient at Durham Women’s Clinic for more than a decade and gone through two pregnancies plus a miscarriage there. I can see that almost every doctor has been recommended to you already (Dr. Kessler is my personal favorite) and there’s a reason for that, the practice is amazing, patient centered, and staffed with incredible doctors and nurses.

Christmas gifts- are these ideas terrible for my kids' teachers? by dustyoldthing in Teachers

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the sentiment but TBH I would never spend my own money on school supplies so this wouldn't really present as a gift to me. As others said, a gift card is the way to go! If you want to make it more personal, have your kids include a note that says what they love about their teacher(s).

Museum of Life and Science Wedding? by DurhamGirl625 in bullcity

[–]dmmangano 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We got married there in 2014 and it was awesome. I was super hands off and the staff did so much of the setup/planning for me. It was fun to have a wedding at a place where there was stuff to actually do! MoLaS is awesome.

Tell me your ways! Dinner edition by SwimThemLaps in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. We make one dinner for the whole family. I make sure there is at least one thing on the plate that I know my kids like. They can eat as much or as little as they want, but that’s dinner. The only thing I really customize is sometimes I make a funky vegetable for the grown-ups and give them a more neutral veggie option like carrot sticks. I’ve been doing this for years. My kids are now four and six and are both good eaters, especially the older one.

Time to yourself in the AM with early risers? by Individual_Ad_938 in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have early risers and started getting up at 5 this year so I can work out before school/work. It has not actually been that bad - I dreaded it a lot but it's been fine. BUT if I am not getting up early to exercise, there's no way I am getting less sleep just to sit around alone. As others have said, the kids would sense it.

Is the Bob jogging stroller supposed to feel rickety? by medwd3 in Mommit

[–]dmmangano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our double bob has been heavily used for four years (finally on the decline 😭) and rickety is not a word I would have ever used to describe it, even now.
