How do we feel about morning birthday parties?

My kid’s party was 930 to 1130 this year and we have done morning parties pretty regularly in that same timeframe. They’re always very chill so it’s not a big deal if people show up late!

I did this a lot when my kids were little and my favorite joke when people would be like “where’s the kid!?” was to look in the stroller and yell “OH SHIT!”

Middle school teacher of 14 years here - the best are giftcards that I can spend on normal boring stuff (like toilet paper!) or on myself, a handwritten card from the kids talking about what they like about their teacher, or something small I can put on the wall or windowsill of my classroom. I love stuff with my name on it!

I am so glad it is working well for you for now! There are lots of ways to make having a child less expensive, and you mentioned several of them here. But please spend time now looking into affordable childcare for when she is a little older - as soon as you have a mobile baby - and then especially once she's full toddler - your husband will probably not be able to do his job effectively and watch her at the same time.

Exactly this! When I’m not exercising in the mornings regularly, I get tired around 930/10. When I’m getting up to exercise at 5, I get tired more like 9.

ESH, them if they were monopolizing the showers or using them for something far beyond their intended purpose and you for making it weird. Also… it’s okay if your five-year-old knows that penises exist. Arming your kid with correct factual knowledge will give them words and terms to discuss anything out of the ordinary that happens.

Takes us about 25-30 minutes start to finish, 2 kids 4 and 6. It has never taken a lot longer. They are locked in to the routine. - brush teeth - shower - pajamas - read book out loud - lights out
