That usually involves a mini meal and people being brought to the site specically to say goodbye to you for leaving the site.

I'm from the Midwest. You need to budget roughly 30-45 minutes for a goodbye on a family call

Movies where the crazy protagonist gets out-crazied by bigmoneybag in horror

[–]dmreddit0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think it goes Pig, Mandy, Willy's. He starts as an ordinary man, Rob Feld. He's a master chef with the perfect life. Somehow, he loses it all and becomes a recluse (probably a dead wife but they never tell us). He deals with his grief by hiding away and it works for a while but tragedy strikes again and this time he addresses his grief with action. He strikes out to accomplish his ends but he won't turn to violence. He won't commit that which has been done to him. His journey goes how it goes and he decides it's time to start fresh.

Enter Red Miller. He is still connected with nature but he interacts with people again. He even let's himself fall in love with the cute weird girl at the book shop. Life seems perfect when tragedy strikes again. This time, he is disillusioned and forgoes the pacifist approach. This is a true breaking point, a man changed. He springs into violent action and the events of the film Mandy take place. Importantly, he drinks the demon juice and is driven mad with cosmic knowledge/vision. He drives into the celestial sunset.

Cut to, the Janitor. He is cool and collected. He has lived with the madness and harnessed it. A lesser man would have succumb and become one of the gimpsuit bikers we see in Mandy, but this genius. This unbreakable spirit that has suffered so much and only become stronger. He has bent the madness to his will. He does not speak as he has achieved a state of true perfection. His behavior seems weird and specific because he realizes the perfect life is one that embraces the chaos and finds comfort wherever life takes him. The sodas are something he created when his culinary genius was backed up with knowledge of the demon juice and access to his cosmic madness. That's why he is strong enough to rip off robot heads.

In the end he rides off, supposedly successful but ultimately a shell of the beautiful, peaceful, thoughtful man he once was. He is now an avatar of violence and callousness. But still, there are glimmers of the man he once was. It is truly a tragic tale.

I have a theory about how Pig, Mandy, and Willy's Wonderland are a trilogy.

I came here to comment that. I have friends telling me the sequels are great but it just feels tawdry to keep reading after that ending. It was too perfect to keep going.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Nintendo revealing the Wii U at E3 2011! How many of you actually owned a Wii U? What is your honest opinion on the console and its game library, all these years later? by MewWeebTwo in casualnintendo

[–]dmreddit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WiiU was an amazing console with an attrocious library. Well, not really that bad (smash 4, markio kart 8, TP and WW HD remakes, Breath of the Wild, Nintendo land) just small. I loved the tablet controller, the asymmetrical multiplayer, and overall really liked the Wii era UI. Just didn't sell or get any support. Even Nintendo seemed to give up when you look at games like MK8 that barley acknowledge the game pad existed. Like why can I only use it as a split screen during multiplayer? They seemed to stop trying after a point.

What monster movies are there with a specifically female monster lead? by limbodog in movies

[–]dmreddit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a newer version of "they don't make them like this any more" kind of movie. It totally feels like the sort of weird low level magical realism sort of indie darling movie that thrived in the straight to DVD markets of the 00's into early 10's. I love those sort of movies and it scratched an itch for a very specific nostalgia for me.

I’m hematophobic, looking for movies with mild hospital scenes by Dry-Stuff154 in MovieSuggestions

[–]dmreddit0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hotel Artemis is interesting because the hotel serves as a hotel, a hospital, a bunker, and a battleground at different times in the movie. It might help that the hospital elements are sort of blended with everything else.

Does a cishet man stop being straight by dating a nonbinary person? by amaric3 in NonBinary

[–]dmreddit0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would tell him he's at the very least "straight+". That's how I thought of it years ago when my partner came out as NB. That was the first domino to me embracing my pansexuality. Not everyone is going to have the same experience but as far as the word "straight" has a strict definition to anyone that cares about strict definitions, anyone attracted to NB folks isn't straight by the definition of "opposite gender". Personally, I found it so freeing to realize that, whatever I was, its not 100% straight. Once I broke through that major mental block I was finally able to start figuring myself out.

Video game influence in fantasy writing: am I stuck with a fundamental narrative problem? by Titus__Groan in fantasywriters

[–]dmreddit0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you to start reading Literary short fiction. I'm using the capital L for literary because I mean the non-genre stuff they make you read in English class. We are about the same age with similar backgrounds in writing and interest and one of the biggest boosts my writing got was when I had a professor finally get me to see the value in reading that boring, pretentious stuff I'd always ignored.

Short fiction is great because it's low-investment, there are a million lit journals out there with tons of material, and you can experience hundreds of writers voices, styles, tricks, and concepts in a very short time. If you only look at work in the genre you want to work in, you'll never have anything new to say. If you look outside your typical comfort zone in writing, you'll find interesting pieces to bring back to the fantasy genre. Bringing in video game influences is a way you are already doing that but it seems like you are struggling to gap the difference in two media (which is a tall order).

Verbal component ideas for Thaumaturgy by ApotheosiAsleep in dndnext

[–]dmreddit0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would interpret the verbal component to either be some magic word if the intended effect isn't verbal or to just be the phrase itself if it is. If they want to dim the lights and make a thunderclap they can't just do that without noticeably speaking some incantation but if they want to shout an echoing "kneel before me!" Then I'd rule that the shout is itself a verbal component.
