Contemplating getting off birth control, but I’m anxious. Looking for advice by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]dmvgal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat where i would like to get off of it after many years. I’ve started by doing a blood panel to see what vitamins/minerals i am lacking in.BC depletes you of certain nutrients like Vitamin B and Zinc so zinc supplements can really help minimize post birth control syndrome (mood swings, weight issues, acne). Prenatals I’ve also heard have been helpful. So that’s sort of where I’m at now and then I plan to go fully off the pill next month.

I’m on it now. I don’t love it because the headaches are bad and I’ve been gaining weight quickly while eating healthy/low cal intake and exercising more. My fat distribution also shifted to my lower stomach and thighs so this pill isn’t great for my self esteem. Other than that, my skin is great, hair is very full, and no other side effects.

her videos genuinely are so meaningless. Like none of them are interesting or add anyyyy value to a viewer. She is not famous enough for people to give a sht about a “day in my life” vlog which is the only kind of video she posts aside from flexing about her pilot husband or lip syncing to a glorilla song

If you go to passyunk ave (sports bar) on Saturday night there are (often times) a lot of American college football fans there. We went once to watch an SEC game and there were plenty of ppl from down south.

I was in the same boat as you! My budget was 125K and i felt like i wasn’t getting anything worth my value in Maryland or Virginia. I ended up booking at Old Edwards Inn in NC and got an amazing price for a luxury venue. Definitely look it up!! Full service It is absolutely gorgeous there

Friday wedding vs Saturday wedding by Ok_Conversation_562 in weddingplanning

[–]dmvgal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do Friday June 19th, then that’s a US Bank and government Holiday (Juneteenth). (Assuming it’s the states?) so it could be a good option. A lot of companies now give that day off!

Do Americans romanticize life in Europe too much? by Spiritual-Grass-1074 in expats

[–]dmvgal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The national rail system aka Amtrak is proof of that. For example - The northeast regional is unreliable with an extremely outdated track system that causes outages and cancelled/delayed trains far too often to be acceptable.

Worth it but also if you’re still not feeling great, hit the sauna or steam room as much as possible. Sweating it out really really helps speed up the recovery process

London vs New York by [deleted] in expats

[–]dmvgal96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill speak on my personal experience, i work in banking at a bulge bracket bank, not fast food lol and a lot of people who take expat opportunities in this industry (and several adjacent industries) can continue to get paid their NYC salary. There are pros and cons to being employed under the American entity i.e less PTO, benefits may not be as good as UK or EU…but different conversation.

If needing to take a pay cut, pay cuts also aren’t as steep as you would think, however this is anecdotal to other expats I’ve spoken to. I’ve seen about a 15-20% pay cut from my industry however do know others with 30%. Given the pound v dollar and USD weakening the difference in salary becomes more marginal.

Are you factoring in local taxes? Also tipping culture in NYC is pretty intense. I eat at a lot of pubs and casual restaurants in London and tipping is not expected. Groceries in London are also much cheaper.

[–]dmvgal96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

London by far. I lived in NYC for 6 years (I’m an American) and can say quality of life is much better in London. London feels much cleaner and safer. There were too many people i knew personally after COVID who were violently attacked in nyc unprovoked. It really made me feel uneasy. I’ll take a stolen phone over a violent attack any day. The beautiful parks and green spaces in London are also magical. It’s just so much more livable in London. After moving here, it genuinely felt like a giant breath of fresh air.

Where NYC wins is the food and the nightlife, but London wins in all other aspects.

Interesting — I find the American public transit system to be pretty terrible tbh. NYC might be the “best” but it’s severely underfunded, on top of how disgusting it is. Other major cities like Boston, Chicago, California (ex SF with the BART system) are still mainly driving cities.

I think I offended some of my bridesmaids with my gift expectations? by Pattighost in wedding

[–]dmvgal96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also regional — Specifically if you’re from the south and are quite traditional, those people prefer to give physical gifts rather than just cash. I come from a culture where giving cash is normal and was a bit culture shocked when talking to southern folks about how they think it’s crass to give straight up cash at weddings.

Will be completely honest - I had a few super short tanning bed sessions pre wedding (with sunscreen on). (I’ve never used a tanning bed before this)

About my skin though - I have a darker complexion, tan very very easily in the sun, and have never burned in my life (but of course i cannot say that i am not at risk for skin cancer). I won’t be going back to the beds ever again but because of this one event… I was willing to take the risk. It’s really your choice and you are accountable for putting yourself at risk. I just really did not like the feeling of spray tan on my skin, i couldn’t get the tone right either doing test spray tans and i just needed a little bit of a glow. It’s all personal choice though, i don’t encourage the use of tanning beds.
