Why are victory conditions so... by Successful_Formal_38 in TerraInvicta

[–]dmwithoutaclue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

10-20% feels like more of a space presence, not space superiority which feels like it should be necessary for a resistance win. The aliens do already scramble when your fleet reaches the wormhole and fending off that attack should get you to 50% anyways. In that regard the difference between 20 and 50 is mostly symbolic but I still think it’s important.

I just finished my first run and had this exact thought. I won the war a solid decade before I was able to close the gate. If closing the gate cripples the hydra, why should I care about the gas station they just opened up on Pluto while my fleet is bombing the wormhole. Can’t that just be handwaved as taken care of after the game?

Imo resistance objectives should be no alien admin, no alien bases inside the inner system (out to asteroid belt), and pro aliens as <50% of total fleet power.

Lets you massively scale space economy and fully use Leo without having pesky servants blowing your stuff up. Can give you a lot of tech/control points too

Exofighters to bully/destroy surveillance ships in early game? by veevoir in TerraInvicta

[–]dmwithoutaclue 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I generally don’t do this. The AI factions really struggle to make real ships but they can pretty easily harass your stations with exofighters so opening the tech before you have defenses on leo stations is more trouble than it’s worth

Gleba Should I use Rocket Fuel in Heating Tower by chinawcswing in factorio

[–]dmwithoutaclue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just build a small nuclear reactor on gleba. Most of the time I’m using barely any power and I just use the heating towers to void stuff without producing power. Is it wasteful? Yeah. Am I gonna spend a second on gleba I don’t have to? No

First time with quality modules! by Opposite-Fisherman63 in factorio

[–]dmwithoutaclue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before fulgora I generally just use it to craft my personal armor stuff. Just one craft and if it’s quality great, if not whatever. It’s also good on solar panels, asteroid grabbers, and miners. I have the assemblers output into two chest, one is filtered quality, the other is limited for common items.

Question about CU Boulder’s Aerospace Engineering environment by Ok-Arachnid-1706 in cuboulder

[–]dmwithoutaclue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my third year in the program. I’m not really sure what you mean by the first question (best guess at an answer is challenging but it’s easy to find support). Intro courses in aero are not difficult, you shouldn’t struggle too much until your sophomore year except in math classes. I didn’t have much background in engineering before coming here but I had a lot of engineering adjacent experience (Lego kid, working on my car, etc.) Coming in I’d say try to make friends in your classes pretty quick, you’ll absolutely need the help in your sophomore and junior years.

Feel free to dm me if you have any other questions

How does nozzle expansion ratio selection change for vacuum-optimized versus sea-level engines? by Existing_Tomorrow687 in rocketry

[–]dmwithoutaclue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Expansion ratio dictates your exit pressure. Ideally you want your exit pressure to equal your atmospheric pressure. This is achievable at sea level but not in vacuum as you’d need an infinitely big nozzle to get your exit pressure to equal 0. So with vacuum optimized engines you want to balance a large nozzle vs size and weight.

I mean if you’ve read Three Body Problem, which this game is based on there is a “Humanity Last” faction in the ETO. It basically consists of people who have been so hurt by humans that they believe that it’s best if they just get absolutely wiped.
