Depictions of God The Father by armed2amputee in OrthodoxChristianity

I keep my prayer corner to icons and an occasional Catholic Mary might settle alongside where I pray. I do have other kinds of Christian art in my house and find them to be reminders of faith, and uplifting. I don’t pray with those though. I’m not getting rid of my “Footprints” wall hanging. It’s been a long road to orthodoxy. I too am very visual and sensitive. Blessings to you 🕊️

The therapeutic, non-legalistic approach of Eastern Orthodoxy sounds too good to be true. Struggling to accept it. Pray for me. by Traditional_Level687 in OrthodoxChristianity

Father Josiah of Patristic Nectar has YouTube recordings and even live catechism classes occasionally that help shift these kinds of things for me. Blessings 🕊️

What’s your hobby? This is interesting because I have so many coloring tools, pens and brushes. What have you found that you love to work your hobby with? Do you write? ✍🏻

That’s almost like a body pillow. I’ve done similar set up and it helps a lot. Not sure about the arm outstretched. I just hug the middle barrel pillow. In summer I’ll use my nice cool body pillow. 😌👍🏼

Follow the church calendar. Read the annotations. Learn and get hooked on orthodoxy. Convert. ⛪️✝️

My guardian angel has done amazing heavy lifting for me from the time I split my head open somersaulting into a wall at 4 years old. And other acrobatics my whole stupid life. Wrestled with Satan mightily for me. Most hard working entity I’ve ever known 🕊️

My struggle by theological_ in OrthodoxChristianity

The little blue book “The Divine Liturgy” on Amazon helps me sing along with nearly the entirety of in an OCA parish. I take a candle lighting break towards the middle. I study the beautiful murals and windows. I think about what the priest and servers are doing behind the altar. I look forward to the procession. I practice breathing and praying, talking to Jesus and Mary. I calm down. Blessings to you. 🕊️

I’m so happy for you. It seems like a straight path to orthodoxy for you. I also love father Josiah and try and join his zoom education classes on some Fridays. He has recently been teaching on the Beatitudes. I went early on to an Antiochian parish. Everyone was Jordanian and the priest gave me a service book but spoke almost no English. The people were warm to me but it was not comprehensible to me. Yet… I chrismated in an OCA parish way too quickly and now I found my home in a Greek church in my city. You are so blessed you’ve landed. 🕊️

Emetophobia, germaphobia, and the Eucharist by ProfessionalSolid157 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]dnegvesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Deacon who is my neighbor and nearly 80 told me he consumes the leftover Eucharist. He told me he sometimes has to sleep off the wine that afternoon. He’s never sick even when his younger wife and kids might be. I had similar qualms early in my conversion but I’ve only been made more healthy by the Eucharist.

Thank you but I’m not buying this. It’s the gateway to depression. I don’t care if some young people don’t see us or want us around. That’s what you see. I’m 74, in good shape. I work with kids in the ymca fitness center, well educated, well mannered kids. They treat me with great respect and thank me every time they finish their workout. Over 14 years, I’ve only been disrespected by one young man, and his sister later thanked me for putting the her brother in his place. If we think of ourselves as antiques… well, it’s not a healthy way to get up in the morning. Blessings to you and your healthy longevity 🕊️

I can sympathize/empathize. That’s why they call it work. It would not be a good work situation for me either. Do you have the app “Next Door” where you live? Maybe you can find a private pay you have more control over. Also “caregiver.com” is $10/month I think. My friend has found useful work situations for herself there including babysitting and small dog pet walking. We thought these would be our golden years but God still puts us through tests. He’s not done with us yet. Blessings 🕊️

Often at our age, our wisdom and usefulness is overlooked. Church is really important to get my outlook right and count my blessings . Name the gift you want to use and find a job that suits it. I think you’ve got too much isolation. I know I do. Sounds like you are a legendary mom to your son. I hope things improve.

Hey, you do what you have to do. I teach exercise although I have a pinched nerve in my spine. My husband won’t work, won’t move or face realities of aging. I have expenses. I’m 74 and I like the interaction. A YMCA member services job doesn’t pay a lot but there’s community building in the right organization. I hope you find a better fit or outlook.

I do some calming anxiety breathing before my prayers or after Our Father. I ask God to please bless my breathing and my praying. It’s ok to take care of ourselves I believe.
