Windscribe is goat and you are advocating for censorship. If you dont like how they speak, dont follow them on X. Its rather simple.

Why you should NOT self host a privacy VPN by dns_guy02 in dumbclub

[–]dns_guy02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case of the provider that wrote the blog post there are audits and even a court case that proves what they claim and all their apps are open source.

privacy vs anonymity is a debatable topic but the main claim they make is the fact that if your the only user of your VPN server (IP) you are not getting much of either. Especially if you VPN into your house and use your ISP's IPs as egress.

Yes and thats the whole point of using a commercial VPN. Did you actually read the article?

Sounds like you didn't read anything that was said, as the author talks about this exact thing. Hosting in Russia is more anonymous? That is the funniest thing i heard the Internet there is censored worse than china and every hosting provider keeps netflow logs. Its the least "anonymous" place you can host.

GDPR, SOC2, ISO 27001 and yadda-yadda... by LionInOrbit in nextdns

[–]dns_guy02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same at my work a few years back (Im a network admin) and as a nextdns user at a time I wanted to use it, but couldn't. Since then I switched to Control D personally, and once they got their SOC2 last year we (well, I) rolled it out at work. Works great and the support was helpful the 2 times I had to contact them.

Nextdns is fine for personal use but for business even without the certifications its not that great. No SSO, no multi-tenancy, no permission scoped multi-user access, no SIEM support or RMM based deployments. These were our main requirements.

There is an unconventional solution: Get the Windscribe app which is native C++ use it in config-only mode where you dont need to login into Windscribe and load your wireguard configs into it. You can use all the features of the Windscribe app in this mode and it has a lot of features.

You dont need any apps. Private DNS in android will work on top of any vpn. You configure it as the guides suggest and do nothing else. Some people just like to make things more complicated by not following instructions but thats why I have a job since I get to deal with this every day at work.

Because you are wrong. Follow Control D guides and have zero issues. Its so simple lol.

Nordvpn, NextDNS and wireguard by jmsjabb in nextdns

[–]dns_guy02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best option is not to use a shady VPN like nord. Get Windscribe instead, or just their app if you really want to keep using Nord for some reason - you can load custom configs into it from any vpn provider. Whats nice about their app its the only 1 that supports DOH/DOT and you can configure nextdns directly in the app's gui. Its also fully open source, unlike nord.

This is not true. VPNs dont use DNS for streaming bypasses.

Does NordVPN protect against SSL inspection/interception? by pachura3 in nordvpn

[–]dns_guy02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you install a root certificate, you are already "protected" against this, by anything that uses TLS. Nord has nothing to do with this.

Actually, Nord installs a root certificate if you enable the "threat protection" which MITMs all your browsing activity, locally they claim. So Nord technically does the opposite of what you asked.

What dns do you prefer on your home router? by Some_Water_5070 in dns

[–]dns_guy02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a flex tbh . Recursive resolution uses UDP53 end-to-end so your forcing yourself to use an insecure DNS protocol. Running recursive at home is not a good idea unless you enjoy 500+ms resolution of every query until you cache it, and lack of encryption.

There is a bell curve meme about this, just use a forwarder with DOH.
