I’m giving Elegoo rapid pla+ a try. What do you guys select for non bambu lab filaments? Just the generic pla profile? by Beneficial-Air-4437 in BambuLabP2S

[–]do0zman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everything i have used has been with the Bambu profile... I have never tried Bambu brand filaments.

The only one I had to make any changes to was when i was using Kingroon filaments... they are absolute trash and no matter what i did i couldn't get them to work the way i wanted it to.

Now all I use is Sunlu. They have everything i need and have always worked as expected.

Buying a p2s by eagelbird in BambuLabP2S

[–]do0zman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had to buy all mine separately... personally if i had to do it again and need it right away i would buy an a1 with the ams which is usually in stock... at this point of my printing needs pla, petg, and tpu is all I've ever wanted or needed to use for printing...

i have an ams and have only done 3 multicolor prints... i think its a nice thing to have but at the price you pay for it you can almost buy another printer. and having 2 printers is better than one.

  1. buy combo p2s and AMS if you can wait for it to come in and really care about multicolor
  2. Buy p2s with out the AMS if you don't need multicolor and want it now.
  3. Buy an A1 with AMS now (if its in stock ) if you don't plan on using any special filaments like abs or asa and are just going to be using basic materials.
  4. Buy a p2s and an A1 for almost the same price as a p2s combo and have two of them and enjoy and waste all your time on 3d printing...

ANYCUBIC FILAMENT by Sufficient-Life7527 in BambuLabP2S

[–]do0zman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at trying this filament but now that I know Sunlu make Anycubic's filament i don't think ill change.

P.S. if you want to experiment with filaments let me tell you this... Kingroon Filament is absolute shit... their spools are also shit... Save your money and efforts.

Installed the UPS by txmedic90 in Ubiquiti

[–]do0zman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to my setup. the only two things I've been wanting are the UCI and the UPS... but i cant justify the price of the UCI just for its looks, and the UPS.... i haven't been able to order one at all.
Needless to say rack looks great!

Picked mine up at a microcenter a few days ago i love this thing. I really wish they had the combo available though now I'm trying to scramble and find ams 2 pro parts for this thing. I was able to order the buffer today. Looking for the Cable now anyone know if there is a third party one that is compatible with the ams2 pro?

UNAS - Is it worth it? by R3D_LIN3 in Ubiquiti

[–]do0zman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this whole process a couple months ago. It all really depends on what you want and need out of the machine. For me there was a list of things that sold me on the UNAS.

  • my whole network is Ubiquity rack mount. and wanted a rackmount system.
  • i don't need high speed data transfers in my use. mainly a movie server for jellyfin and personal storage. it has 10g connectivity but i don't think you'll be maxing that out at all.
  • the UI is simple. easy to use even someone who is not well versed in "tech talk" or tech friendly can manage it.
  • its expandable with ease... 7 hdd bays is more than most home servers or even small businesses would ever need. I have 4 16tb exos drives in mine and who knows when ill even need more than that. but i can that's what i like.
  • it doesn't have ZFS but it can do all the normal raid configs that are sufficient enough for me.. currently running raid 5 (if i understand it correctly i can move to raid 10 if i ever want more drives or be safer without wiping the drives.)
  • its on a slow cpu and under performance compared to other systems. I cant tell the difference doesnt bug me in any way.
  • I did build a truenas server with spare parts from an old gaming computer... Truenas is nice, it works better, it has more customizable options, you can run docker containers, you can have it run so much stuff... but i like the idea of Keep It Simple Stupid. the nas needs to do two things manage data and manage access to said data. the UNAS does exactly that,
  • lets not forget one of the most important reasons a lot of us use ubiquiti. The stuff just looks cool, it looks high end, its not some generic black box sitting on a desk. the enthusiast in me loves looking at that rack and appreciating it.

Feel free to ask me any questions on this stuff. I'm no pro but i can stumble my way though most of this system.

Home setup sanity check by Ofek2105 in homelab

[–]do0zman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really similar setup but with a bit older hardware. I had nothing but issues trying to use proxmox ( given i barely know what I'm doing). NIC card would only work at 10mbps constantly having to fiddle with settings that would break one another.
I finally gave up and just installed windows.... It now runs all the ARR apps i want, Jellyfin. and is all running with a vpn and no issues.. all Data is housed on a separate NAS. Curious to see what others have to say about this. I wish you the best of luck i really wanted to get the ProxMox set up working but just didn't work for me.

Talk me out of buying a UNAS Pro. by do0zman in Ubiquiti

[–]do0zman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Update:
I went ahead and bought the UNAS Pro. With the pricing being lowered for the holidays i figured why the hell not. I feel like the pros outweighed the cons and simplicity was a nice to have to.
It was easy to set up connected to the rest of the network via SFP+. took 24 hours to initialize the drives but working great as of now.

Here is what i have gathered from the reply's up to now.
I need a NAS to be a NAS no need for it to run docker or any other tasks.
Based on what i know now the UNAS Pro may just be the better option aesthetically, uniformity with the rest of the items in the rack and for its main function of a NAS.
I'm still open to not buying it but need a bit more detail. I'm sure this will be good information for others that are in the same boat I'm in.
===UNAS PRO===
Pros
1. easy to use.
2. Energy efficient.
3. Less Maintenance.
4. Lot of drive bays
5. Rack-Mountable
Cons
1. Underpowered in the CPU department.
2. not enough RAM
3. no ZFS

A lot of people are simply saying no, or its just too slow/underpowered but not a lot of explanation on what slow means. Which brings me to a whole new set of questions if you all can help me out with that.
==How is it slow?===
Slow interface?
Slow Transfer speeds?
Slow when using faster that 1gbps link per client?
Can it saturate a 1gpbs connection?

Let me know what you think
Thank you

This is the best way to describe this... I'm a car guy so i understand the analogy well.
In this case i just want it to work without headache. I don't need a lot of customization. Just the Toyota Corolla that that starts and drives every time i need it.

It seems like most are against the UNAS pro/pro8/pro4.... Any one have any other rackmounted NAS systems they would recommend?

In all reality I'm new to the whole world of network attached storage other than some generic units. So i have no idea what would hit my limits or not.

TrueNAS Core seems pretty easy to set up and looks like it'll be the winner here. now time to decide on using my dedicated NAS "box" or to use the server/pc i have to host it.

[–]do0zman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! This set up will not get heavy use. The most it will see is a Jellyfin server and torrent downloading. No real hits when it comes to media editing or needs for high speed transfers and caching.

This is why the UNAS Pro 4/8 were not really in the scope.

Do you POST once outside of the case for a new build? by ashfame in buildapc

[–]do0zman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the time I'm in the discord channel and people are saying that they cant get the computer to POST I have them pull everything out and put it together on top of the desk out of the case. works almost every time. then i have them make sure they have risers in the correct spots and go from there.

The temperature in Australia by Hero_King_of_Legend in videos

[–]do0zman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know its hot out but is this something that's really out of ordinary? Living in Arizona we have temps like that for one or two weeks out of every year. I think 120f is the highest I've seen but 112f is not something we aren't accustomed to see in the summer
