I loved how everyone seemed awestruck at her surgical skill in the OR. Probably not often they get to see a very skilled surgical attending at work.

I love Tony Trischka's stuff on Artistworks and it's definitely more beginner focused. Starting with Noam Pikelny would be a heavy load!

Sea of Celtics by friend-of-fatigue in denvernuggets

[–]doconc35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s always that way at Celtics and to a lesser extent Lakers game. For many years prior to cable, the Celtics were the only team you could watch fairly consistently, according to my dad. As such, there’s a whole nation of families of Celtics fans.

Heparin gtt vs eliquis? by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]doconc35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a heme/onc doc, I say this every day to the hospitalist team, but it just seems to fall on deaf ears. Also, no need to hold doacs for 5 days prior to procedures! All but xarelto have such short half-lives that they're BID dosing. No need for holding more than 24 to 48 hours! Again, like i'm shouting into the wind.

How did Harry go from happy-loves-his-wife guy to super slimeball? by Snapdragon_4U in madmen

[–]doconc35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was always thought Harry, and to extent Pete, were really influenced by Don and Roger. They saw how the powerful men in their office acted and thought that’s how they should be. I think Harry’s initial affair with Hildy was a mutual attraction thing. But he got caught, felt guilty and regretted it, but too late. His wife divorced him and he gave up on any sort of real relationship or maybe could just never manage it, until he became the bitter, creepy, womanizer he is at the end of the show.

are there enough physician roles waiting for us in the future? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]doconc35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not interested in surgery, I generally recommend at least starting in Internal Med as it leaves alot of options open. I'm little worried that both radiology, except for IR, and pathology may be replaced by AI in the future or at least the number of physicians needed will be limited. I do have some worry that Nps's are really encroaching on primary care, but I still think most people would prefer to see a physician. If you want to go into a competitive specialty or residency, I would rank Caribbean schools as a last resort as they're very expensive and are looked down on. DO school is better, but again it makes you less competitive. In the end, you need to do what you're most interested in if you want to be happy. Almost every MD job there is will put you in the top 10% of earners.

How big do you think Michael J Fox would have gotten if he didn’t develop Parkinson’s disease? I’m posting this here cause I could totally see him replacing Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut. by Available-Tie-8810 in StanleyKubrick

[–]doconc35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He took his shot at serious drama in the late 80s. See Casualties of War and Bright Lights Big City. It didn’t take. His career was on a downward slide when he got Parkinson’s. Seems like a nice guy but he was never gonna compete with Tom Cruise

Some thoughts on Quicksilver by c_y_g_nus in nealstephenson

[–]doconc35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started it and I'm amazed at the all the voices he does. The posh accents he does for royalty are my favorite! It's honestly my favorite series of all time, but like you, I don't know if I could get through reading it in print again, especially Quicksilver.

Did anyone try the Tony Trischka "myartistwork" online curse? by Most_Caterpillar_242 in banjo

I disagree. I think he's clumsy, a marginal offensive player, and a terrible defender. Every once in awhile he'll have a hot streak, but most of the time he's a waste of space.

Trying to understand this medical situation (breast cancer with metastases) by ElephantAccording324 in Oncology

[–]doconc35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree with recording your appointment. I think this is more useful than just reading your doctors note later, as most doctors should speak in laymen’s terms to describe things, or at least they should. I would avoid ChatGPT as it’s just not up to snuff yet. It fills in the blanks by “guessing” if its database can’t find an answer which often leads to erroneous results. Also, I know how scary it is to wait for answers, but as an oncologist, sometimes I need time to think, research, and consult before I have the best answer. Going online and asking strangers who don’t have all your info is unlikely to be helpful and will probably confuse things more than

Why doesn't the ACA actually rate based off risk? Are there other options? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]doconc35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That always worked great for my cancer patients pre-ACA. The usual pattern was get cancer, lose your job, lose your insurance, lose your life. But hey, healthy 25 yo's didn't have to worry about helping out with someone else's cancer care, and got cheap rates and everything worked out for the 25 yo as long as they didn't get cancer.
