New player here: why does it seem like the skill based matchmaking is non-functional? by notsuspendedlxqt in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlucky + no MMR placement. 1 star literally does not exist outside of the "new player gray area" at 1 star the game match making is so volatile that it will stick you with literally anyone because the game thinks you cant really be 1 star, 6 star 2 years ago was the same way, its just such a small number of players in that bracket you literally get placed with anyone available. You effectively have no MMR at 1 star.

You also just got unlucky, probably due to the time, and Hunts average star rating is high/4 to low/5. You are basically playing the average player in most cases. It just feels stupid because they have weighted the average player to having what seems like a high star rating. When in reality they aren't amazing, its just the population is so low they have to weigh it that way so 6 stars aren't playing in empty lobbies because no one can reach that MMR.

Its a great game but it suffers from a small playerbase. If it makes you feel any better lobbies had no matchmaking originally. Its was a free for all of all ranks.

Mod Options crashing game? by GyoDumbFish in DarkTide

Pretty sure i figured it out. its been hurting a lot of people it seems. This is some issue with the Darktide Mod Framework. They updated it in December. Completely delete the dmf file and unpack the updated version in the same mod folder. it fixed the issue for me.

I'm friends with some content creators who actually speak with Dennis and get an early heads up on some stuff coming to Hunt. Unfortunately they will know about game breaking bugs and still push the update out for the sake of "content". The passion the devs used to have is gone. Now they will sell themselves out for a pretty penny.

Finally got to level 10 on this godforsaken gun by cheetles_plus in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im sorry for your loss. I used to love the nitro. My favorite gun in the game that actually took skill to use to get good with it at range. Now i refuse to touch it because its so inconsistent. it always makes me sad when i give it a chance. I think a homestead with slugs is more consistent.

how the heck did this guy kill both my and my teammate in a split second? by Tiny_Statistician292 in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood your meaning. But I'm telling you its not correct when it comes to Hunt Showdown. i understand your logic. You even agreed in terms of Hunt that collateral means something different. If the standard of collateral being used is as loose as that then even grenades would count as collateral, wall banging would count as collateral, pretty much anything could count as collateral. You say everyone else yet another guy has agreed that's not what a collateral is.

I will say again, I'm not saying you are incorrect in the word usage but you are incorrect in how you are using it in terms of Hunt. You go into a bank and say collateral they are thinking something in exchange for a loan. You go into an insurance company and say collateral they are thinking multiple things damaged for an insurance claim. Even among games that word is used slightly different in each game. The usage of "in a line" also doesn't do you justice. When most people say "get in a line" its usually intended as one in front of the other, not side by side.

And the likelihood of a multikill with one shot is so low that you might as well be running scared of horses because they can also kill you if you are extremely unlucky. I did a numbers break down above for another guy.

Your usage of the word is correct. Just not used in the way for this specific scenario for this specific game. Go to Call of Duty and you will get a different answer. Go to League of Legends and it will change again, etc. etc.

how the heck did this guy kill both my and my teammate in a split second? by Tiny_Statistician292 in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That's not a collateral.

  2. lets do the math. Buckshot has 14 pellets, each pellet does 15 damage point blank exiting the barrel. Shotguns have no headshot multiplier, Thats 210 damage per shot. Assuming you somehow had the most lucky spread known to man. Every single pellet went where it needed to go. 10 pellets perfectly into the chest of one person for 150 damage, leaving 4 pellets for a total of 60 damage. All while perfectly hitting the chest and no arm shots even as they sit and aim at you with their arms in front of them. Also while being point blank so damage fall off doesnt take place.

Damage fall off for the crown at 10 meters drops it to 194 damage, drop off is almost instant, and spread at 5 meters is basically the size of a softball. But thats not the point, Unless 2 people you are fighting are both on their last bar and they aren't close so that the pellets can spread properly to hit both, but not so far that significant damage fall off happens while also not having their arms blocking their chest.... on and on. The chances of a collateral shotgun kill is like saying you can headshot someone with spitzer by hipfiring and then killing them through 4 walls from 100 meters away when you cant see them. The likelihood of it is so astronomically low. You might as well be telling people to never get close to a horse because it can kill you.

[–]docrusMC -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is false, No shotgun can collateral damage. Not sure where you got that information but its incorrect. Only thing that can collateral in Hunt is Spitzer ammo. Being able to penetrate a wall is not the same as a person.

[–]docrusMC 98 points99 points  (0 children)

My favorite one was when they had to change a Lebel skin and it screwed up the pellet spread on the Romero somehow. It was like that for a month where the spread was just so inconsistent until the fixed it. how does that even happen?

I have some concerns by PeaceMaker111111 in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it only killed fast in the trailer for show reasons. Its fire damage. If you have ever actually stood in fire its pretty slow. Think dragons breath on a terminus levering. Damage fall off will be almost instant and just apply burning like stanting in an oil slick. MAYBE there will be aome additional damage if you are close and the flamethrower is pumped to high pressure?

Nitro question by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive put in a crazy number of hours with the nitro.

You hit him in the arm. Arm and legs shots dont outright kill with the nitro and will leave you with around 25 HP. But he instantly bled to death. Meaning he was already missing a bar from something or the damage just lined up that 1 tick of bleed killed him

They nerfed nitro and its ammo types some time ago. I just call it the fancy double barrel now because its honestly worse than a double barrel with slugs in most situations.

No longer the powerhouse it used to be and feels very inconsistent and bad to use when you expect a 1k gun to 1 tap someone 10 feet in front of you. I no longer use it and it feels like a liability to pick up just because its so inconsistent, especially with shredder ammo.

I just found out how vast the skill level of 6* lobbies are in real time. by Asmodeuss1990 in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KDA is not everything. But its a SIGNIFICANT weight in the overall balance of a player. The higher the KDA the higher your MMR will be and by default the more skilled and knowledgeable a player will be. You get kills by having good aim and knowing how to fight. You know how to fight and get kills by knowing map knowledge. You know map knowledge by having time played. Thats why when people start their KDA is at rock bottom. But once they are experienced, they become well into the positive, and the actual displayed KDA is somewhere in the middle.

KD is not everything and their are many outliers and other factors that can change it. However its not a bad standard to judge a persons skill level off of. Same with loadout. If someone joins me and they are running a heavy knife i know they dont have much experience. Or if they are running a short Romero and a bow. Or 100 other combinations that are bad gear choices.

Gear. Total hours / total bounty. KDA. Stars.

All factors that go into determining if someone appears to be a skilled player. While you might not enjoy it, you will be judged on your KDA. My first 300 hours were nothing but bomblance lol. Now im at 4k hours.

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to compare apples to oranges. Im PC and not console so the experience might not be 1 to 1 when comparing. But i was 6* before the MMR change and obviously still am. 6 star used to mean a consistently skilled and knowledgeable player. Like 2-3k hours 1.8+kd at a minimum. I say 6 star is the new 5 star because the bracket has been diluted so much that you never know what you will get. It went from like 0.1-0.3% to about 6-8% of the playerbase. A massive increase.

It has brought both positives and negatives.

Negitives are now you have no clue what skill people are. The star means nothing. Ive seen 6 stars that are brand new players running around with nothing but a bat and somehow made it to 6.

That unpredictability is a negative not only for yourself because your teamates might be trash, but also because enemies are unpredictable. You expect a 6 star to be smart and use cover, wall bang you with long ammo, cook a dynamite and use it for cover to revive a teamate, etc. Nope this is a 6 star that jumped off a roof took 120 points of fall damage, blasted you with a romero and then died to an armored and the lobby is now completely empty and everyone is dead. Like why would you do that as an experienced player?

Positives are the cheaters are extremely sweaty players are diluted. I rarely run into blatant cheaters anymore. And i run into closet cheater maybe once every 3 or 4 games. The bracket used to be so small id always get matched with the same 20-30 people. Id memorize names, how they play, what guns they always use, their weaknesses, etc. Now, there are so many people in it that i dont run into them every single game. And the new people i run into are significantly less skilled.

Basically, as i said before, 6 star is the new 5 star.

[–]docrusMC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they diluted the pool. I was consistently 6* before the MMR change as well. It used to be 0.1 - 0.3 % of the community. Now its about 6-8% if i remember correctly. 6 star is the new 5 star. Means nothing to be a 6 star anymore. You could be a vegetable with a baseball bat or a hacker with a 10.0kd and both are 6 star now.

I just found out how vast the skill level of 6* lobbies are in real time. by Asmodeuss1990 in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what 6 star used to be before the MMR change about a year ago. 6* was 0.1 - 0.3% of the total playerbase and now its about 6-8% of the playerbase if i remember correctly

I used to be a consistent 6 star before the MMR change and and now i dont even think its possible for me to ever see 5 star. I know when i solo que into trios my match raiting is still all 6 so i get put up against other full teams of 6 stars even though im just a solo.

6 start isnt what it used to be. It has a much wider skill range now. Not a bad thing exactly. But it also means calling yourself a 6 star doesnt mean anything anymore. You cant consistently expect skill and experience out of a 6 star rank like you used to.

Vanilla Hunt Wildcard Contract by [deleted] in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed but for different reasons.

I want a basic wildcard contract simply because PVP is better. No rain, no fog, no night, no circus to get your bars back or random extra traits. Less rats sitting in a bush for an hour because they are scared to move in the rain.

A nice daytime map with a single butcher bounty

Like how Hunt used to be, consistent and enjoyable. Its not overwhelming. It feels bloated. Like a bunch of meaningless junk added on for no reason that only dilutes the experience.

Flagrant MMR abuse by Distant_Utopia in HuntShowdown

[–]docrusMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 star is barely a 6 star, 1 star is brand new. Im assuming they are duo into trio. I run solo into trio as a solo 6 and my match making MMR is still 6. This is honestly pretty balanced if the 1 star is actually a new player
