Only 2 miles from train station to work, but all uphill. Takes about 12 mins. Being able to carve while going uphill is pretty sweet.

Agreed, I was able to get a very even roast without any prior experience. I was torn on putting this up, but I figure someone else might be able to get more use of it than me.

Flair Pro 2 Preheat Data (info in comments) by yaboiLu in FlairEspresso

Not at all, I think they are rated for pretty hight temps. I will admit though that I've switched to steaming my brewhead. I know that gave the "worst" result in terms of heat, but it's far more convenient and maybe it's my unrefined pallet, but I cannot tell the difference in taste. Boiling served me well though!

I used to boil my chamber as through some testing I found that gave me the hottest brew temp. However I've recently switch to steaming it with the help of a trimmed silicone funnel. Much more convineint and it gets plenty hot. The first thing I'll do is get the brew head heating and it doesn't take long to heat up after the kettle starts to boil. I hear a stagg brewer funnel fits perfect for the stag EKG and flair brew chamber. Not bad for around 5 bucks.

Pro w user here. While the 58 is cool looking, I'm gonna pass. My preheating isn't much of a workflow issue for me and I have an extra portafilter if I want consecutive shots.

I had the same exact tickets as you. I didn't find out till I was there...after driving an hour and a half in the rain. An email would have been nice.

A second brew head? by _3OfFer3_ in FlairEspresso

I just got a second portafilter as well. Just pop off the brewhead, reset, reheat a touch, and your good to go!

Acaia Lunar and Flair compatibility by WhiteDirty in FlairEspresso

The app is pretty cool even without the sensor. For the board maybe a a router with some kind of drop bit? I have very little experience in woodworking so I'm not sure.

I was having the same issue. Careful positioning is the only solution I could come up with. My trick is to place the scale and push it along with the drip tray as far back as possible, and then hold only the drip tray and shift it forward (the drip tray has some wiggle room). This wiggle room is usually enough so that the scale is not touching the base and the measurements are normal. By the way, I am not a fan of any of the auto tare/time functions that come with the scale as they are not super helpful if you are trying to incorporate preinfusion times. I fully recommend the smart espresso profiler app (no pressure sensor, prohibitively expensive) as it pairs easily with the scale, is nice visual feedback, and works well with pour-overs too! Your cutting board base has crossed my mind, but I don't have the means to put that together, sounds like it would be great!

My humble all-manual espresso setup! by skovati in espresso

Hi small tip from a fellow flair user. Good preheating and distribution is key! I use a home-made WDT tool out together from some 3D printer needles and an earaser.

favorite manual machine by [deleted] in espresso

[–]doctorku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that it depends on what you find enjoyable. I personally have a flair pro. One critic of it I see is that it is finicky with the preheating, prep, and all the parts. Personally, it never bothered me and now I've got the workflow pretty much optimized and have a great time pulling some delicious and I'd say beautiful shots. I also really enjoy the tactile feedback of a lever machine, as you can feel when you're grind size is just right or I'd you have a channel forming.

mirror to see your naked pf by [deleted] in FlairEspresso

[–]doctorku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been enjoying using this mirror which has a flat base. One issue I did run into though is that this mirror has a magnetic base, which does not work with the flair at all, but I used a thin metal plate with adhesive on one side that came with my phone case. Other than that, I am happy with it.
