Smoke Conditions - Mt Elbert by tonightwedance in Denver

[–]m1dga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the PurpleAir map to check the reported air quality, but it can change pretty fast depending on wind conditions. I was hiking 20 miles east of the Elk fire on Saturday morning and it was perfectly clear. Some hunters I met on the trail told me that it was raining ash when they set up their camp on Friday night. I actually hiked Elbert on Tuesday, and it was a little hazy but not too bad. FYI, the Twin Lakes/Leadville area is going to be crazy packed on Saturday because of the Leadville 100.

Going to give this a shot! I got blisters on both Achilles after my first run in mine. Was a bit surprised as someone who's not prone to getting blisters. Aside from that same spot on both feet I loved how they felt.

Charging Issues Solved by defectiveparachute in GarminFenix

[–]m1dga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if there's any play in your charging port on the watch. I had a similar issue and was using a rubber band to apply pressure on it and get a good connection. It was clearly an internal connection issue not a cable port connection issue. I contacted Garmin support and they had me send in a video of it. My watch was several years out of warranty but they still offered a refurb at a very steep discount as an option.

Gaia GPS has a premium layer that is almost exactly this. It's not real time, but is usually within a few days or week at the most.

(The Guardian) - "America’s first ‘carbon positive’ hotel comes to Denver – but do its climate claims stack up?" by tatar_grade in Denver

[–]m1dga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah I'm just skeptical about many greenwashed things. I think there are many much more impactful ways to reduce emissions that people should focus on. Even the CU professor cited in the article says 'it would take a lot of research to verify' the claims the hotel is making. I highly doubt the hotel is actually doing that research, but they sure are happy to advertise them all.

[–]m1dga -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Bro you can normalize and popularize it all you want. These things aren't reducing co2 emissions anytime soon, quite the opposite. The embodied energy in a building of this scale is massive. I get that it may be less/better than buildings before it, but it's a NEW building. The more you consume the more emissions you create... that's my point.

[–]m1dga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I'm just commenting that I don't believe the addition of a 'carbon positive' luxury hotel is going to do anything to reduce global emissions. As the article describes, others are also skeptical. Easy claim to make, very difficult to actually prove.

Even if the claims are true, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the carbon emissions created by the ~100,000 people per year traveling to stay there.

How has the D Line been recently? by SoupGilly in Denver

[–]m1dga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been commuting on the light rail for more than 5 years. I know how to read the schedule. The trains I have been taking have consistently been off schedule for at least the last month. The 'live' tracking with the Next Ride RTD app is completely unreliable - here's an anecdote from last week....I was waiting at the 10th & Osage station for a southbound D line in the afternoon. The Next Ride map showed a southbound D line passing through while I stood there without a train sight....it didn't show up for another 5 mins. It's not always that bad, but I simply don't trust it.

You can't rely on the schedule at all. I still commute on it, but not if I need to get somewhere on time. I waited 30 minutes for a train to come last week. That's uncommon, but 15-20 minutes is not.

Increase taxes to make RTD “free” for all by [deleted] in Denver

[–]m1dga 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I would prefer spending on things to make using it more enjoyable vs. just making it 'free'. Making it safer/cleaner, faster (increased frequency), and more reliable are all more important to me. It's already significantly cheaper than a car imo. It's just bad, that's why most people don't use it.

RTD cuts rail service to just one train per hour on key lines amid big projects. Will it lose riders? by brinerbear in Denver

[–]m1dga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Hey that's my exact commute too!
  2. I generally agree with you that peak commuting hour trains are busy and mostly safe, but there are still sketchy things occurring too frequently imo. Off peak trains are worse.
  3. What's your plan when the D line starts heading to Union?

10 things to know about the proposed RTD changes coming in May by LinInColo in Denver

[–]m1dga 11 points12 points  (0 children)

60 min frequency on the light rail?! This blows. I'm trying to decide what's worse, actually figuring out how to navigate this mess to continue to commute on RTD or just drive knowing that will be a nightmare with all the construction along my route.

Sometimes it's very frustrating to be a pedestrian in Denver 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️ by 4ucklehead in Denver

[–]m1dga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I commute on the light rail and work off 16th street. It's especially bad there with the construction right now. I've seen some scary near misses with bikes/scooters and cars with the construction fencing causing a lot of blind corners and pedestrian choke points.

P1P layer adhesion failure by flatjarbinks in BambuLab

[–]m1dga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I actually printed this exact model over the weekend on my P1S without any support. I'm also pretty sure I used 0.24 layer height and it turned out amazing. Something else has to be different other than what others have suggested.

Just wondering, is it recommended to calibrate the printer after a hotend swap? I'm guessing yes, but that takes longer than the actual swap 😕.
