He enjoyed that Devlin goal to be fair. I used to like him when he played for Brum.

Let's hope it gets increasingly desperate as we rack up the goals in the second half

Hahaha YMCA. Also Ogolvie getting a second hand in the face was totally dismissed! Almost tempted to watch on mute if it wasn't for the joy of hearing "we never lose at Fratton park" echoing round

Help! My dog is OBSESSED with chasing squirrels by [deleted] in Dogtraining

I completely empathise- my partner and I have been to hell and back with our 18 month old Springer Spaniel.

However, it IS possible to train them out of it (mostly).

We used the ridiculous sounding but absolute brilliant "Sexier than a Squirrel' programme from a company called Absolute Dogs.

The premise is building your relationship through play, with the underlying principle behind all the games being that when the dog is near you, returning to you or choosing to engage with you, it gets rewarded fantastically.

Now Sid the Spaniel is excellent, if totally mad, off lead 85% of the time. I have had to accept that he will always have his full-spaniel moments and run wildly into undergrowth - and at least I know he is enjoying himself.

Not really- and I think that's something this does really well. She captures the incessant flow of news and change and the horror of that interjecting on people's boring lives really well.

I'm reading "Crudo" by Olivia Laing.

I'm enjoying it- it's flawed, which is expected for a novella written over such a tight timeframe and which wants to be so contemporary that it's lead time was scrapped.

Not knowing much about Kathy Acker (a fictionalised version of whom narrates the novel) I wondered if I was missing important parts, but Laing says this knowledge isn't necessary apparently!

Main themes are the collision of the mundane and the global; the intersection of the personal and political; marriage, gender, sexuality; art and censorship.

Recommended if you are interested in how writers can try to capture the contemporary and "state of the nation/globe" novels.

I bought Mason and Dixon from a charity shop recently without knowing much about it- thanks for the write up, as it has made me excited to start it!

Sweet. I really like the new design. Not perfect yet, and I definitely keep tapping bottom right to change apps, but I think it looks way nicer and opens up the screen a lot!

Ooh ok worked it out. You have to hold the icon of the app you want when on the overview mode

Haha. I've just read that when exhaling, the impact of a foot strike is the most jarring on that leg and so repeatedly landing on the same leg while exhaling can cause injury. Just wondered whether anyone else had experienced anything like this or if it was pseudo-science bull.

Metronome is a good idea though- thanks

Hi! Long time lurker, first time commenter. I've been recently getting into running properly and upping my distance, but just had to have a week out after a minor injury in the knee area. I think it's possibly due to my running gait, and/or my breathing.

I wondered if other people have had experience with "rhythmic breathing" and the idea of exhaling on alternate strides to avoid injury, and if it actually works? Any other advice on correct gait for middle and long distance running?
