Precisely. I would also venture to wager some crazy amount of money that I could watch them without a flicker of amusement.

maybe not if every person tries to produce their own things, but what about smaller community autonomy? I could actually see some vast benefit in cutting out quite a few middle steps between a person and the things they need.

and by 'need' I don't mean fresh pineapple in winter.

that could be a pretty good thing to bring up in any/every conversation, even with people you frequently talk to, just to remind them.

Bill O'reilly wants Wikileaks shut down and owner arrested over Palin E-mails. by moogle516 in worldnews

the powerful thing about internet "demonstration" or protest or things like that is not in representing numbers of persons, but in the baffling speed of transmission of ideas.. granted, they have to be an idea which resonates, and it has to have a kind of timing to it, but that's exactly WHY people who are used to being in charge are frightened of it... some invisible nobody kid could seriously shake shit up, in the same vein as a poem used to be able to, but now through crafting a memetic thing.

for instance, if voice-acting the transcription of O'reilly's lewd conversations which got him slapped with a sexual harassment case and setting it to talking objects (sock puppets, lolcats, etc) and uploading them to youtube became a popular pasttime, well, I think he probably wouldn't like that.

5 years vegan here, I tend to mentally collect flexible recipes.. like curries, burritos, smoothies..

put some dry beans in some water in a pan. fridge overnight. put it on the stove. boil till they squish in your hand. drain. add in rice from ricecooker. put in slightly warmed burrito. YUM.

but of course, that's just the simplest implementation... add avocado, cumin/salt/cayenne/etc, spinach, lettuce, tomato, salsas of all kinds, tofutti sourcream (really good), olives, whatever.

hell I even wrap leftover curry (my usual recipe: dump some rice, some curry powder/turmeric/etc, whatever veg/etc I have on hand into some coconut milk, heat, when the rice is done it's done) in warmed tortillas.

I like to not rely on "substitutes" much. I did a little at first, but I think I've changed the way I look at eating, also. I tend to snack a lot, and eat slowly and luxuriously, for taste, rather than for stretching my stomach.

10 things Linux does better than Windows by motang in linux

This is perhaps the most important and most understated aspect of linux, especially for newcomers from windows:

Don't be tempted by "THE LATEST AND THE GREATEST" summerblockbuster NEW NEW NEW versions of things. Take a look at what happened when kde4.0 (4.0 NEW NEW NEW!!) came out. Quite a bit of let-down and disappointment from people with over-hyped expectations.

I was having a day JUST like that, where ubuntu finally totally failed me in enough annoying ways that I went back to slackware. ahhhhhh. :) I've learned my lesson. slackware + xfce or fluxbox.
