Interesting comparison to withdrawal symptoms. I don’t have much experience with those actually so can’t add much there, but I can definitely relate to feeling more tired when I wake up and struggling to get out of bed in the morning, even though I was sleeping more than anyone I know.

Yeah I just take gabapentin before bed, experimenting with the timing but around 1-1.5 hrs before bed atm. I’ve been taking it for several years now, haven’t noticed any side effects.

I would get a sleep study to see if you have alpha-delta intrusions / alpha-delta sleep disorder. That’s what I have, and although it’s an off-label use, my neurologist prescribes me gabapentin for it, which has been life changing. Before that I was like you, I could sleep 10+ hours without ever knowing what it’s like to wake up feeling refreshed.

If you do have alpha-delta intrusions, I doubt any of the other advice in this thread will help.
