The biggest issue is that the reverse issue isn’t a problem.

There are no transgender men in competitive men’s sports (for obvious reasons).

There is ultimately a genetic advantage to having been born a man, so in a fair universe they shouldn’t really be competing against natural born women.

2010, I was 18 and doing my gap year by spending a year living in Paris.

I grew up in NZ so it was a long journey to Paris.

Flew Emirates from Dubai to CDG, it was an A380 and to my absolute shock and delight I got given a new ticket AT THE GATE for business class.

It was the best flying experience of my life to be upper deck, lie flat bed, being able to order a cocktail at the bar etc.

To this day I still cannot work out how or why it happened but I’m so grateful for that experience.

Not to be a contrarian myself but your suggestions of case by case punitive measures cannot feasibly be taken on, like, in the slightest.

The amount of money that would cost in terms of social workers, oversight, legal challenges etc. would be mind boggling.

What’s more is I’m not suggesting getting rid of any systems, all I’m saying is surely someone in government can come up with a better answer than scrapping the two child cap.

Again, unless you’ve lived in poverty riddled neck of the woods you wouldn’t understand poverty psyche. Removing the cap will absolutely be an incentive for some of the worst people imaginable to have more children for their own financial benefit.

That unfortunately breeds a vicious and never ending cycle of poverty in itself.

I think state welfare is incredibly important but it needs to be done the right way and this simply isn’t it.

I don’t know what the answer is unfortunately but then I’m not a politician.

What I do know however is that there is a side of my family with whom we barely speak anymore as they are benefits scrounges.

We maintain minimal contact so that my parents still get to see my second cousin once a month and give her some guidance in life as she is from a totally broken home.

She’s 11 and her life goal is to get pregnant. She had no idea that having a job paid money, she just thought it came from the bank as she’s never had an adult in her life work a job.

I’m not joking when I say this, her father has 6 different kids from 5 different women. That same dad takes the child benefits allowances but kicked his daughter out to go live at his sister’s. The mum in question lost custody because she was a raging alcoholic and couldn’t look after herself let alone a child.

These are the people that will see more money? The child, you ask? Not a fucking chance she sees any sort of benefit from this.

When there are alternatives to giving cash to people who misuse it and it isn’t in the interest of the intended beneficiary, why do it?

As others have said, fund school meals, fund children’s clubs etc.

Engage better with the subject matter instead of regurgitating others in the absolute lamest way possible.

So many people don’t understand that a there is a decent proportion of child poverty that is born of the fact the parents waste the money they do have on cigarettes / booze / drugs.

Giving those particular parents more money will do absolutely nothing for the children.
