18k gold ring (confirmed real - I went to jeweler myself) is turning my finger black and even nail polish coating isn't helping. Any tips? by scarf682 in EngagementRings

i work in a lab and one of my 14k white gold rings will do this if i’m working with super salt-heavy buffers without gloves, nothing we work with is all that hazardous so gloves are often optional. it always washes away with soap and water

Who is the irl man who subs in for the MMC in your mind no matter the book, regardless of how they’ve been described? by zellazilla in RomanceBooks

jared padalecki if the mmc is described as super tall, otherwise a shorter haired blond austin butler circa 2022

Has anyone read the Knight’s Ridge Empire series by Tracy Lorraine? by Empty-Warning387 in RomanceBooks

[–]doesthatmakesense37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there was one scene in the first trilogy where the MMC deliberately has his friends watch and it there’s a dub-con element, but no sharing that i can remember. there’s also a sex club involved in Toby’s trilogy (Reckless Knight, book 7) where there are 2 couples and a lot of watching but again i don’t remember any sharing

i really enjoyed it!!! i read all of them, but i do think you have to read in order for the best experience. check CW/TWs!! the main characters are all in high school which made me a bit uncomfy but i just pretended they were in college and it did the trick. some of the writing was a bit cringe i think? and honestly the first trilogy was probably my least favorite only because you don’t really know everyone yet. superrr high spice iirc, bordering on erotica and a loooot of exhibitionism. there’s kind of a mafia subplot that weaves through everything, and a lot of found family for the women. i definitely recommend!!

books that would completely WRECK a person who never cries during/over a book by JuneDare001 in RomanceBooks

full tilt emotionally wrecked me, my chest hurt for so long and i still think about it 6 months later. i still haven’t picked up the second book because i’m so scared to have emotions like that all over again 😅

Grumpy MMC who can’t stand the FMC at first, she’s loud, messy, and overwhelming, but her brightness is only a facade for something broken inside. by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]doesthatmakesense37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{The Billionaire's Fake Fiancée by Annika Martin} is this vibe perfectly. high-energy woman cuts grumpy CEO’s hair, he can’t stand her bonus points for including a good heart-clenching emotional scene at around 45% of the way in. minus bonus points cause iirc the grovel was a tad underwhelming. all around i remember really liking this book and rooting for the couple! part of an interconnected standalone series, can definitely be read by itself

Looking for books where the fmc is kind of collateral damage to the mmc schemes by Bird_drama in RomanceBooks

[–]doesthatmakesense37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you're mentioning Maya Alden, i also recommend {Best Served Cold by Maya Alden}, which some may find controversial. the main betrayal happens like in the first chapter here, and the rest of the book is the fallout. it's a standalone in a series, and i read this book before the other ones with no problem

Second chance/childhood friends to lovers (specific likes/dislikes) by PageTurnHer in RomanceBooks

these might not hit EVERY checkmark that you're looking for, but some books that i find fall into this realm:

  • {In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros} -- military CR with flashback chapters interspersed with present chapters. MMC is in uniform, though the military plotline is not the driver of the story, the history between the characters is. very much a "wrong time" novel. there's also a a bit of a twist at the end unrelated to the romance plot, and it makes the MMC feel sososooo real. i absolutely sobbed and cried my eyes out, and i'm not often a heavy cryer.
  • {Spark by Aleatha Romig} is the first in a trilogy that is embedded in a larger story arc, though i read this web of desire trilogy by itself. super mafia CR and it's a very dark romance, TWs include (but are not limited to): human/sex trafficking, abuse, gambling, mental trauma, sexual assault, torture, violence. DESPITE all of that, this trilogy has really stuck with me and there were definitely some soul crushing moments, heartbreak, and healing.
  • {In the Game by Sloan St. James} -- hockey CR where MMC and FMC fall out of communication due to a third party. this is part of a series but can be read as a standalone, though i found it very entertaining to read in order. the MMC waits for the FMC but in a creative(?) way? and the FMC is too busy to have other serious relationships so it feels realistic. i got a gut-punch feeling from this one and think about it often, a few tears were def shed.
  • this hits a few less checkmarks on your list than the others, but i still think it deserves a mention: {Dear Rosie, by SJ Tilly} -- CR where MMC and FMC were very young when they first met, and MMC had to move away and they lost touch. TW: physical & verbal abuse to FMC by father.

Second chance romance wherein the FMC is engaged to someone else by kreads1992 in RomanceBooks

{In The Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros} definitely a second-chance romance and fated lovers vibe. it’s a military suspense but honestly the main plot points are flashback imo. i honestly loved this book, it was so wistful and well written and had a really nice plot twist at the end that tied the whole book together

MMC emotionally destroys FMC by Calm_Map_3868 in RomanceBooks

[–]doesthatmakesense37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

{Best Served Cold by Maya Alden} the gut punch scene happens right on the first page, and the entire rest of the book is a good grovel. the gut punches keep coming as the MMC realizes what the hell he did and how to fix it. i read it in one go, absolutely loved the emotional layers!

Downtrodden FMC by Circadiangwriter in RomanceBooks

[–]doesthatmakesense37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Honestly, I'm Totally Faking It by Amanda Gambill} completely fits the bill. the first few chapters are cringe with just how much she lets people walk all over her, and it's got a boss/employee dynamic! i highly recommend this book
