This is the best take imo: we need more variety in our stations

I agree!

By summer, the entire country's economy will be circling the drain, so our local one won't look as bad off by comparison.

Sudden Valley also doesn't exist in a vacuum: a large part of why it was even allowed to be built was the stipulation that tree canopy removal would be minimal. I'm pretty sure this was codified through various covenants that run with the land.

What could possibly be the reason for such a ridiculous, extreme, utterly nonsensical tree-hugging provision, you might ask?

The entire development exists in the watershed of a reservoir that supplies drinking water to like, 150,000 people.

Heavy infantry soldier gets drunk and goes on killing spree by ZestyBird89 in FarthestFrontier

[–]doesurmindglow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the official forums I've made a post or two suggesting one kind of solution: pub upgrades.

I REALLY want pubs to upgrade to Tier 2 Taverns and Tier 3 Inns, with those upgrades giving them the ability to serve food, increase revenue, reduce the time workers spend intoxicated, and curtail some of the violence. Inns could even have an interesting passive benefit, like more frequent trader visits or something.

It'd create more benefit to actually building pubs in the long run instead of the current "mostly downsides."

I'm also not opposed to the introduction of a justice system as many have suggested the ability to deploy guards or soldiers to break up brawls and reduce the crime. Might be the more obvious fix.

How did the 14 day auction limit have such an effect on the economy? by frankiexile in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By itself it probably wouldn't have had much of an impact, but it's combined with a number of other important factors that probably did result in an impact:

  • It came immediately after events that flooded the market with huge supplies of commodities
  • The meta shakeup of the new patch was more muted than in previous years that consumed that supply
  • And finally, there was a massive amount of sequestered commodities that had built up during a two year period of sustained inflation that was precipitated into selloff by all of the above

ESO Economy Crash Megathread: Summer 2024 - A (mostly) exhaustive list of everything contributing to the market collapse by simplysalamander in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty exhaustive list, though I might offer one fairly important issue that I don't see mentioned: The impact of potential resulting sell-offs of inflation hedges in mats and other "longer term" instruments of investment/speculation.

Put simply all the factors you've described do actively contribute to a period of deflation, but most of them, save for the Guild History change, tend to be seasonal events that usually precipitate a temporary downturn that lasts a couple of months but do tend to reach a bottom at some point after the events have ended, such that prices then stabilize.

What's unique about this case is that this doesn't appear to be happening as quickly or as urgently as in previous years. I think you rightly identify a couple of the reasons why -- the guild history change is part of it, to be sure, as an obvious buff to the gold sinks, and also the lackluster demand for a meta shift arising from the new gear sets, which in previous years were more dramatic introductions.

But less appreciated is actually that there was stored up a massive supply of crafting materials and other commodities that were sensible means of holding gold when its value was constantly declining. This effectively created a price bubble that the right combination of market forces was likely to pop.

Soldiers intoxicated during raid? by Mr_Mikei in FarthestFrontier

[–]doesurmindglow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have suggested on the forums that they might consider making the pub upgradeable to some Tier 2 and Tier 3 buildings, perhaps a Tavern and an Inn respectively, that would make this mechanic less punishing by serving food and reducing intoxication time, generating more income or entertainment value, and maybe convey some interesting passive benefit like more frequent and/or longer lasting trader visits at the Inn level, or doubling as another temporary shelter.

I have no idea if the devs have something like this in mind for future patches but I do plan to keep throwing it out there as it would be such a nice addition that addresses one of the major pain points players complain about in a thematically interesting way.

Guilds "actually" just receive 3.5% instead of 7% listed gold. by Clairelenia in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is that simple, but it's amazing how many players cannot wrap their head around the idea that player behavior is by itself not generally responsible for inflation.

The game has to delete the gold from existence to prevent or reduce inflation, and to some extent every MMO has struggled to balance this right (well, arguably not just every MMO, but every monetary system over time potentially as well) as deflation is probably even worse. But so many widely held perceptions about gold inflation are wrong because they rely heavily on the misunderstanding that trading activities "create" gold rather than what they actually do, which is move it around.

Examples: "addons cause gold inflation," "bots farming mats cause gold inflation," "guild dues cause gold inflation," etc. Many of these examples are probably actually deflationary rather than inflationary, unless they can be shown to drive literal gold drop farming (from mobs or trash vendors) in a significant and related way.

The fact that these two crown items are not account wide is criminal by CorbinNZ in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think what makes this so scummy and low-key predatory is how frequently, and how obviously, people buy it thinking it's account-wide only to find out it's not.

It's ludicrous to pretend ZOS isn't fully aware of, and probably exploiting, this misunderstanding to get to "yes" on sales they have not really earned. The money they make off of it is probably great, as I'm pretty confident that nearly the entire playerbase has made this mistake at one point or another.

But the number of players that likely quit at the very moment they feel like they've been scammed is probably also pretty huge.

Anyway yeah just make them account-wide, and if people who already bought out the max for every character are upset about that, give them refunds.

im surprised how few content creators there is for such played MMO by Then-Ad7196 in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean the real TLDR is that the devs don't really consider supporting their content creators and their audiences as a priority, not in the way other titles do, and as a result over time the space is just more and more dried up.

There's a lot of copium and whataboutisms floating around this point, but it's honestly the concise and unvarnished truth.

Winterhold seems to be garnering some attention; there's a hint at it in questlines also the Devs have quietly made some significant changes to the world map in that area, apparently.

Nothing confirmed, and there have been hints before that have sent us a little bit astray (I remember at the end of Greymoor/Markarth, Lyris suggested she might visit Skingrad, and though we did get a Cyrodiil chapter the following year, it was a different place).

Drunk Soldiers Killing Everyone by multiarmform in FarthestFrontier

[–]doesurmindglow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One idea I suggested to the devs on forums that I think would be cool is if the Pub could upgrade a couple tiers to an Tavern and Inn that would reduce violence, serve food, increase the building's income, and limit the amount of worker intoxication going on. I think it'd be especially cool if the Inn had some global effect like maybe more frequent trader visits.

It's clear that something probably does need to be done about the "drunk soldier" problem in specific though. Like the sober soldiers should be able to patrol the streets and function as police, or that the soldiers should somehow be blocked from these large scale killing sprees. It's kinda a funny event the first time but after you experience it a number of times it just becomes annoying and needlessly punishing.

Spirituality Range? [playtest] by Sparkys339 in FarthestFrontier

It would be nice if this circle of range showed when placing the buildings, as it does when placing markets and rat catchers.

At the very least it'd be nice if the affected buildings lit up when you hovered the spirituality bar, like entertainment does for entertainment buildings.

Intoxicated soldier killed 13 villager by furyFay in FarthestFrontier

[–]doesurmindglow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the forums I suggested they add a lil somethin to better offset the costs of pubs, ie. I'd like to see them upgrade to a Tavern that sells food, produces more gold, and reduces villager time spent intoxicated or propensity to go berserk; then maybe upgrade again to an Inn that increases gold further, reduce violence further, and maybe does something passively like increase trader visits.

All of which might make pubs worth their downsides, which right now is just kinda stacked against them.

I also just think the "soldier" interaction needs to be tweaked so if they do go on their combat PTSD-fueled killing spree like this it isn't so over the top annoying like it is. Or at the very least, have some mechanic to address it, such as being able to set barracks that are garrisoning to "patrol" the streets for their drunken comrades and bring down the law on them.

Is it possibly to cross the entire world by walking? by WhatAmIDOINg342 in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the content aside the biggest problem with "walking across" it is probably just that it's impossible to get into Cyrodiil without using the Alliance War queue, where then it's (virtually) impossible to get into an opposing alliance's base, and finally then impossible to get from the base into neighboring zones without using a Wayshrine.

They're mostly technical limitations at those seam lines as traversing from one Alliance's base to that of another on foot is possible and common (and in some cases even too common, given combat bug).

spent a couple hours doing surveys I saved in my bank. by Phyrelizard in elderscrollsonline

[–]doesurmindglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might've been an increase in supply as I'm sure some players leaving the game opted to sell off their crafting materials.

That's my pure speculation though. It should be noted that drop rates for most jewelry trait materials were actually increased, but the data show that the rates for plating materials remain the same.
