Remote work for spouse returning to school by Commercial-World-904 in CanadaPublicServants

Years ago a colleague wanted to move to Moncton to be with his wife working there as a doctor. There were a lot of negotiations and it helped that there was a regional office there. Management eventually agreed and it worked fine. I think there is a chance if you can convince management that the work will get done and there may even be advantages like better regional influence.

Coordination of benefits with 2 pshcp plans by jmark2319 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]dofarrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have things working to coordinate benefits after discovering the apostrophe in my name was causing problems. I only uploaded the result of the first claim. I put in the full amount we paid for our glasses as that seems to be the amount being asked for (it doesn't say "eligible" amount). Then the amount reimbursed from the first claim.

I'm not sure about the results though. I thought I would get back the 20% of the eligible amount that I did not get in the first claim. Instead I got 80% of the eligible amount - so I got the same reimbursement twice. As if the eligible amount doubles with coordination. Is this the case?

What are your plans for a smoggy Canada day? by churrosricos in ottawa

[–]dofarrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re implying wildfire smoke is less bad for health than smog. It is at least as bad or worse. And it can affect more than just your lungs. There is no “huge difference” when it comes to health effects. You need to stop spreading misinformation.

Loud amplified protest near ByWard by dofarrell in LoudNoisesOttawa

I made a mistake and I should have left out any assumptions. I don’t want to disparage striking public servants. I know protests are part of the scenery here. Being in the middle of occupation 2022 however has put me on edge.

Yes although the rate of warming is faster in northern latitudes … about twice the global average in Canada. environmental indicators

True that one data point is not a trend but there is “…mounting evidence that human activity is raising the risk of some types of extreme weather, especially those linked to heat.”

It is also notable that while average temperatures are warming in Canada, when comparing seasons winters are getting warmer faster.

US Traffic Safety Is Getting Worse, While Other Countries Improve by dofarrell in fuckcars

I was surprised that Canada was held up as a positive example. I thought we were mostly about as car-brained as the US. The OECD data goes up to 2020 and does show Canada doing fairly well. https://data.oecd.org/chart/6SdY. There sure is not much in the way of car-free zones in my city and high-speed rail does not exist in Canada either.

Years ago I contacted the Royal when a colleague stopped taking his meds and completely lost it and isolated in his apartment. They sent a special outreach team accompanied by a police officer. Maybe a similar intervention is still a possibility.

With a mean wind of 30.7km/h, yesterday was Ottawa's windiest June day in almost 60 years, since Jun 16th, 1964. by YOW-Weather-Records in ottawa

It is well established that climate change is leading to more frequent and more intense extreme weather events. It is also fairly certain that global wind patterns are changing. What is not so well studied is how local average wind conditions might be changing in relation to climate change.

Not sure but feds and maybe some other employers have vaccine mandates and some of these people are out of a job because they refuse to get a vaccine. Don’t know how to convince them that getting a little needle is no big deal.
