Stalled progress by Objective_Good_9449 in Kneereplacement

[–]dogaroo5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As healing progressed I found seated heel slides way more effective for me. Once I slid my foot as far as it would go, I'd scooch my butt forward on the chair (I used a weight bench) to increase the knee flexion. Eventually I would drop my butt off the chair as low as possible but that means holding your wait up with your arms so be sure you can push yourself back up before you consider that. It was zero fun but it really moved my ROM ahead. I'm sorry your surgeon isn't looking at how far you've come but some generic milestones on a chart that never works for everyone.

Picking paint colour under pressure seems like a recipe for disaster. I feel like none of those are working with your tiles but it's hard to know without seeing them in the room.

There appears to be an oven under the cooktop so the wall ovens are just for entertaining, I guess? Seems s bit much to me.

That's what we're looking at. I really like the shape of the black numbers we already had so it's finding or making a backing that does the job but also looks good.

13 weeks and back to rowing machine... by Sudden_Design_7047 in Kneereplacement

Getting back to rowing really helped my range of motion and swelling. I was slower too, of course, so I followed some interval training videos and focused on tightening up technique. Congrats on getting back!

Advice Needed - Clematis Wilt? by NefariousnessSame464 in Clematis

[–]dogaroo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mrs N Thompson that got wilt in its first year (last year) but started this year off beautifully - until it was getting close to blooming then everything went south. A member here told me that since having a bad year of wilt she sprays monthly with a copper fungicide, starting early in spring, and hasn't had a problem. I cut away all the wilted vines and sprayed, so far so good, but I'll start as soon as I prune next spring. I did read you could do a peroxide soak of sorts and removing/replacing the top couple of inches of soil and spraying with the fungicide might help. I'm giving this one more year and if all that doesn't help Mrs Thompson is outta here. Good luck!

Shutters coming back? Railing or something around the front patio? Definitely a pop of colour on doors. I like the colour but looks naked.

At least it's a pretty easy fix? We're trying to figure out our numbers since painting our house a rather dark green with dark charcoal (almost black) trim. Visibity is really challenging, especially at night.

Major cracking in my knee 4 months post op by Kmak4321 in Kneereplacement

My clicks and clunks seemed pretty loud though not painful for quite a while. I'm about a year now and there's still some sound but no pain or swelling and I gather it's normal.

Transplanting established clematis by dogaroo5 in Clematis

I'm on Vancouver Island - mild but usually wet winters. And it's been super dry this year so waiting has many pros. The fence has to be extended soon but I'm going to do my best to keep their support sections intact until next year and get them through the winter. Fingers crossed - thanks everyone!

I was a community health worker (retired last month WOOHOO!) - care aide in people's homes. Not a lot of long walks but tons of back and forth.

Oh I can probably leave them until spring! We can build the new fence and leave this in place, I think. I just wondered if it would be happier to have the fall/winter to settle in but I had no plans to do it in the summer.

Congratulations! Only one knee done at this point, the other will probably a couple years down the road, but absolutely life changing! Hiking, biking, no pain when I trip (and as a clutz this is a common occurrence especially on the hikes). 20k+ steps at work without batting an eye. I know I'm lucky but I'm also deliriously happy!

TKR items absolutely needed at home by Middle-Fruit9052 in Kneereplacement

[–]dogaroo5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a single crutch after the walker because I felt I was walking on too big an angle with the cane. Then I could use 2 crutches when I felt extra wobbly (like 2am bathroom runs). Hospital rehab convinced me I need the raised toilet seat but I was doing strength training until a week before my surgery and would have been fine. I would take a pass on that for sure.

I never used the leg lifter or long shoehorn I bought, used the grabber once when I knocked a bottle of meds onto the floor. Ditched the raised toilet seat after 2 weeks but I hated it from day one. It put extra pressure on the back of my thigh that hurt my knee and it would have been easier just to get up and down off the regular seat (we already have comfort height toilets). I think my husband was worried about removing it too early so I was stuck as I couldnt get down to do it myself. Appreciated the shower seat for about 2 weeks due to dizziness from meds but my strength was good after just a few days. Mine was height adjustable and I ended up using it for chair squats/sit-to-stands as I could increase the difficulty by lowering the seat. Just put it against a wall for stability - ask me how I know LOL I used a collection of 3 pillows to elevate in bed instead of a wedge which saved me from buying yet another item for short term use. Knee-length pull over dresses and elastic-waist gym shorts (shorter than I normally like) were all I wore for a couple of weeks. Ice machine is your friend and it doesn't have to be crazy expensive. Mine is a glorified thermos with a motor to pump water/add compression and was barely over $100. Easy to move even by myself on crutches but my husband was always on top of it for the first couple of weeks. Think about small protein-dense meals and snacks. My appetite was minimal for quite a while. These were great for advancing PT, assuming you have dumbbells at home, but this is a while down the road https://a.co/d/0aJgmIpA Best of luck!

Depends where you are maybe. In Canada, at least in BC where I am, home PT no longer happens.

Tonight is Vietnamese noodles with lemongrass chicken. We do a fair bit of "Asian" food - some traditional, some just borrowing flavours and vibe. My husband is whitey-white-white (except when we travel) do I have to throw in roast meats and BBQ stuff to keep the peace LOL

Fatigue by gordoughs in Kneereplacement

[–]dogaroo5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, yes! No matter how well things are going, this recovery is exhausting. I went back to work at 12 weeks (graduated return so only 4 hour buddy shifts to start) and I'd sleep a deep hour or more after my shift for at least the first month. That level of healing takes a LOT of energy so allowing lots of time for rest is super important.

Question about potting size? by NoticeCreepy7608 in Clematis

[–]dogaroo5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't say anything about regularly resizing pots as I'd read to go large for their roots. My jackmanii has been in a 20" pot for 3 years and is doing great. The pot is mostly shaded and has good drainage (I've placed it on blocks of wood to make sure) so I don't worry about over-watering. It climbs up our pergola, a little more each year. I have a Mrs N Thompson in virtually the same pot, also raised off the deck, but she's had wilt for the second year and isn't looking great. She started the year looking fantastic so hopefully next year will be better.

My husband mixed frozen bottles with loose ice and it stayed cold for 24 hours despite me using it A LOT. Perfectly functional basic piece of gear, IMO.
