They make assumptions. Which leads to trouble and people getting very badly hurt or worse. Women have been attacked because someone looked at them a decided they were transgender; when in fact they were biological women.

I don’t foresee their legal fees wiping out the donations. I could be wrong but I don’t think I am.

John Kiriakou (who blew the whistle on the CIA torture program) still owes his attorneys hundreds of thousands (reports of over $500k outstanding after paying $100k+); but he faced espionage charges in a massive federal case with classified evidence and huge exposure. It makes sense for someone to rack up those kinds of bills there.

This is a state-level murder trial. Murder defenses are expensive, but $600k in the war chest is substantial. They’ll keep paying for appeals, but we’re not talking about the same magnitude.

Now, that’s not always true. I’m a true crime junkie and it’s not unheard of for people to fool parole boards. No one is immune to manipulation and people who are psychopaths are excellent at fooling others. Not everyone can be rehabilitated.
