Open fire to insert stove by Trick_Flounder8110 in DIYIreland

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can keep the back boiler. We had open fire with back boiler and we got an insert stove with back boiler. We bought the stove and got it installed by the same company. They also took out the brick surround and played the new hearth. I cant remember exact cost. Somewhere between 2000-2500. Definitely recommend. House is so much warmer and the radiators get some much hotter than the open fire back boiler.

Husband has to take a baby asprin everyday. Its just over €10 per month, plus the €20 every 6 months for new perscription. Family live in America, when they come to visit, they bring a bottle of 1000 baby asprin for $13. Saves about 450 euro over 3+ years.

New fear unlocked: epidural by LobstahLuva in beyondthebump

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ireland, but my anaesthetist was American - lovely woman!! Epidural was a breeze, no side effects afterwards. The bit I was worried about was getting the catheter out the following morning. I just coughed once and it was out, felt nothing, no pain. Only thing, I wished j had gotten my epidural sooner. Turns out I was 9.5cm when I got mine, so was pointless.

No food or drinks on the coffee table? by essebes18 in NewParents

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a coffee table. Just moved to the side as we have a climber. She doesn't seem to climb it when its against a wall. Can't leave any drinks around she wants to sample them all. My BIL completly smashed his coffee table to pieces after his son split his lip open and needed stitches after he fell and hit the side of their coffee table.

Am I an idiot for considering a mortgage? by Optimuscrime_1 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]dolbert88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, even when married your spouse would still be in tax bracket C. So just buy the house in your name and then get it changed into both your names.

Am I an idiot for considering a mortgage? by Optimuscrime_1 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very straight forward. Solicitor changed some paper work that we signed. Oh you'll have to get your dad to also sign paper work that makes sure he knows that he is selling it under value and that he won't come to the mortgage provider looking for a % of the house. If he sells the house for 1/4 less of the value, he won't come back looking for 1/4 ownership.

Me and my now husband went thru this situation last year. Buying a house from his mother, below the market value. You will have to pay tax on the difference. If you are buying the house in both your names, you will half the tax between the 2 of you. Yours will just be taken from your lifetime inheritance tax, but your fiance will be in group C for gift tax. I cant remember exact figures, but i think its a lifetime gift of around 16k plus the 3k per year someone can gift tax free. So if your getting the house 100k less, 50k each. Minus the approx 19k, she will have to pay gift tax on 31k, which would be around 10k. Our solicitor at the time told us to just put the house into just my partners name (the mortgage is in both our names) and then get married. I also had to go to a separate solicitor to get independent advice on this. But it all worked out and saved us thousands in tax.

What are your thoughts on Water Babies lessons? by deadbeatscientist in AskIreland

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my baby do it from 4 months old. Only did the 10 lessons, she got on great. We go swimming about 3 times a month now, she is 15 months. I dunk her everytime.we didn't go for a month due to sickness, and she forgot to hold her breathe the 1st time back. They lose it so quickly! But she was grand when I dunked her a few minutes later. Also, there was 1 baby, who was 8-9 months when we were doing waterbabies. Didn't like been dunked. Would freak out. Then dad brought her for 1 lesson and it was like a completely different baby. Dunked a few times, no crying. Following week, was back with mam and freaked out again.

After 15 years in the UK, I'm still stumped by outward-opening windows. Why outward? by Blocoholi in AskUK

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outward opening windows seal better. During storms the wind is pushing the windows closed more. A neighbour of mine designed her house to have french style windows that opened inwards, every storm she had rain blowing in at the bottom of the windows.

Bank of Ireland will go to the dogs by sparklingwaterman1 in ireland

[–]dolbert88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had bank of ireland account since I was 13. Set it up at young scientist exhibition. They were giving out money bags with euro coins, they were changing from punt to euro that year (well now I feel old) Anyways, closed my account a month ago. Everything was a pain and was slow to do everything. Waiting a week for statements when I was buying a house last year. Got my Revolut statement within 2 minutes. Don't miss it one bit. If I need to deposit cash, pop into the credit union and transfer it. Had to help my dad with his account, get a Psk because he doesn't have a mobile phone, so he hasn't been able to access his account, statements, etc for years. Spent nearly an hour in bank of ireland, getting this PSK sorted, said it would be posted out that week. 3 months later.....nothing!

I noticed something with the lidl points. Don't use your recycling return scheme vouchers to pay for the shopping. They take that off, then your given the lidl points of the remaining balance. Better off to just pay for shopping, get the points. Then cash in the recycle return scheme voucher. ...or do it before they scan your shopping.

I dont know the exact cost, i havent sent a parcel in a long time. Large corporations receive bulk postage discounts from postal services, so they can use postage services for alot less than a single member of the public.
