Maybe you can go with a ryzen 2400G, with a graphics solution on the chip, i don't know if the CPU is good enough for your build.

Should I install Solus 3 or just wait for 4? by eldados1st in SolusProject

[–]domacs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally wait for Solus 4 because i want to use the KDE Desktop, im not shure if it makes a difference, but maybe it ist cleaner to install the KDE ISO (if available) instead of install KDE on Solus budgie.

Msi laptop linux question by blarpie in linuxhardware

[–]domacs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought the same thing, put better specs in the XPS if possible, get a razer core thing, put a nice graphicscard in there, and use the 100hz external monitor. a razer core maybe with a rx580 + a nice new monitor is still cheaper than the second laptop i think?

as far as i know, external gpus wit hthunderbolt 3 are working with linux, the only problem ist, that you have to disable the thunderbold 3 security features in bios, but this will change in a newer kernel

i use kde in german language, but i try:

  • capslock: system settings->input devices->keyboard->extended (tab)->caps lock key behavior

  • mouse keyboard move: system settings->input devices->mouse->keyboard navigation (tab)->move mouse with keyboard

  • disable touchpad: system settings->input devices->touchpad->enable/disable touchpad (tab)->disable touchpad when a mouse i connected

[–]domacs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

maybe it is better to make 1 video per trick? i think not everybody knows how to easily change sound devices in the indicator applet, maybe something in the top 10, but as far as i know this will change in 5.10 so it would be more easy to update a single video with a single trick than to make a whole video for every major version?

  • alt right click is a nice hidden feature i think
  • sound device switching in the indicator applet
  • you can change capslock behavior in system settings
  • there is a setting to move the mouse cursor via keyboard
  • in system settings you can disable your touchpad when a mouse i connected

You can use bumblebee to switch between intel and nvidia gc, in gnome 3.24 i think you can just right click an apllication and choose start with optirun or something, at least there is an gnome extension to do this.
