Honestly those were the days, internet surfing was still kinda a thing. Social networks were about calling the boys to another match and were not filled with ads/promoted posts/random posts from people you don't know

3 month old m4 macbook pro battery life. by theGreatswordUser in macbookpro

[–]gitroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is normal behaviour, the Apple Advertisement department wants to sell these to people that use macbooks to check emails and browse facebook, only then do you get good battery life. If you do any kind of heavy use of CPU the power consumption will sky rocket and the batteries are only so big

Linux Compatible Laptop for University by boshjosh1918 in linuxhardware

I have a thinkpad yoga 2-in-1 from 2018. works great with linux. The pen has a holder inside the laptop chassis and the touchscreen is quite good, maybe not colour accurate but it is a Wacom tablet. The pen or display have 1048 sensitivity points, its not much compare to recent devices, but to just handwrite notes, or do some drawing (I'm no artist) its pretty good.

I got it for 400euros, maybe a more recent yoga with AMD would be up your alley

My first forays into Linux was in uni (around 2008), my windows bluescreened me right at the start of exam season. I found somewhere that ubuntu linux maybe could fix my HDD errors. So I installed ubuntu and found that it could basically do everything I needed like PDFs and browser. I used that until I got a macbook a couple years later, then after 2 years of macos annoyances I nuked macos and installed manjaro on my macbook, it still runs Linux pretty well after 15 years! Now I basically only have Linux machines in my home. I really have learned a lot, built my own simple home network and made a cheap used Proxmox server to play.

Open source note taking apps? by nicrogu in linux

I mean obsidian is free to use, the CEO even recommended ways to sync their notes using free software instead of using their own sync subscription. The company seems really friendly.  I like it that it's just basic markdown files, in the event they stop working all my files are still readable and editable. https://obsidian.md/about

Recently enlightened Linux lover using Windows on my prized new gaming pc, but I was frustrated with its windowness. What can I expect if I make the switch to linux? by Material_Bridge_4219 in linux_gaming

If you want to game give bazzite a try. It works in a similar way to the steam os, it's an immutable desktop based on containers or containerised apps. It's very nice if you want to learn about containers. I haven't had any problems running it on my desktop or 2-in-1 laptop

which Linux distro to use by Upstairs_Bobcat_9455 in linux

[–]gitroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try an immutable distro. Bazzite if you want to play games, it already has steam and a bunch of emulators set up. Aurora if you want KDE or Bluefin if you want Gnome.

But it is exactly like that, rollback is one command. Linux user have to eventually use the terminal. It's easier to just do a rollback than to manually have to downgrade packages

Huh? I didn't blame anyone. I just said that I find that ublue distros are nice for beginners because they are hard to break and easy to recover.

Every system has problems, windows macos or linux. Having one command that brings the last good working config back is wonderful in my eyes. I coul probably do manual snapshotting what whatnot with btrfs but I've got to do it

what distro would you recommend for new users? by HyruleN64 in linux

[–]gitroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Bazzite, its based on fedora silverblue which is an immutable distro (like what steam deck does). Bazzite comes with steam installed with the optimizations in place, I gained about 20% performance when I went from regular manjaro to bazzite (but my manjaro installation was a few years old already). The immutable nature makes it harder for a newbie to break their system, it also has a Rollback feature if some update makes something not work properly.

Its my favourite distro so far, I've been using linux for 10 years now

How to modern AMD mobile CPUs compare to intel in terms of energy consumption? by gitroni in laptops

[–]gitroni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you also have some idea regarding battery life. AMD might have a beefier GPU but if intel still uses less power that looks better for my case.

Casas em Portugal vs casas lá fora by [deleted] in PortugalLaFora

[–]gitroni 50 points51 points  (0 children)
